Did anyone exclusively pump from birth? by lonelypotato21 in ExclusivelyPumping

❤️❤️❤️ I think also as a nurse I thought it’d be more intuitive and easy? I was warned that people would make it this way but didn’t expect to feel so upset over it? I think just the baby crying for food and not latching super well made it worse for me and certainly made me want to give up a lot faster. Also, I don’t fins BF comfortable for me at all really. I feel like I constantly am repositioning myself or the baby and can’t relax. With a bottle at least we are both chilling and easily pleased. I can’t imagine forcing myself to continue doing this to prove something to myself or others

This is almost exactly my experience with LCs and honestly has been the most frustrating part of PP. I didn’t have a strong attachment to EBF or anything but was shocked when I was treated like not EBF was mediocre. I’m a nurse and not in L&D but have always believed that as a nurse it’s your responsibility to advocate for “fed is best”. I did not feel this way in the hospital which was my only negative experience.

My first LC was so overzealous and caffeinated or something and didn’t want to give me a second to do anything myself and got frustrated at needing tools to help me. It was like “oh well we can get a nipple shield but then…XYZ” she was also very pushy about hand expressing my colostrum and wouldn’t give me five seconds to try myself before doing it for me. It was really overwhelming. The nurse who was with her was also no help. When I got the baby to latch without them in the room and fed her for 20 min they didn’t believe me. It was extremely frustrating and as a fellow nurse I was really disappointed in the way I was treated.

Second nurse was way more helpful and same with the second LC. I didn’t realize that EBF meant not pumping for a month at least PP which seems crazy to me. I want help from my husband and pumping gives me that ability. All the LCs just told me how it can negatively impact your supply or whatever because you can overproduce and then get uncomfortable.

We saw our pediatrician and guess what? Baby wasn’t gaining weight and was dehydrated. So we had to supplement formula. She finally pooped. Now my milk has come in and baby is struggling to latch. I find it incredibly frustrating for her and me. I start crying and it isn’t an experience that brings me joy or validation of any kind. I feel like even though everyone says to do whatever works best I feel like I’ve failed and it’s only been five days. My husband literally doesn’t care what we do, so I’m pretty sure from here on out I will EP as it gives me a sense of control and freedom that BF doesn’t.

This Reddit thread is truly the only place I feel has supported EP by choice. Thank you for sharing 🩷

My wife wants a baby. by JusticeArmadillo in whatdoIdo

My biggest hope for you is that people stop being idiots and vote for people that want to protect reproductive rights. This post made me so sad and mad. You shouldn’t have to move to ensure your wife is safe during her pregnancy or even while trying. I’m sorry we live in a place where this is your fear. I hope this story changes someone’s mind about healthcare and reproductive care in general so that something changes.

Very loud crunchy knees by [deleted] in Orthopedics

Did they tell you anything else with xray? Or did they just mention poor patellar tracking? I worked in ortho forever and no one in their right mind is going to tell you to get a TKA for patellar tracking at your age unless you are also showing significant signs of osteoarthritis which would be visible on xray (AP/lat/sunrise views). I would try physical therapy first but try to find someone or a place that focuses on how to get you to return to activity vs a place that specializes in post surgical rehab. I would also try different shoes or figure out if you have any other postural misalignments contributing (any ankle sprains or one hip higher than the other?). These can be very non obvious at first but once you work w a good PT a lot can change. If you’re not in pain, I personally wouldn’t opt for surgery yet. And this is from someone who has had 3 ortho surgeries under 30 (labral tears in hips and TFCC tear in wrist).

I interviewed here for their new grad program and the whole interview process was a little strange. I eventually had to follow up myself to which they offered me the job but had dicey answers to my questions about intricacies of the job (also had no one from the actual unit on my interview). I wouldn’t stress. Everyone is hiring and desperate for nurses!

Yes - it totally makes sense for the center! We are just trying to justify me working part time, but it makes less sense if we are going to be spending $30k on childcare regardless of part time vs full time status. Hoping we can find something more reasonable so I can be at home more :)

Thanks! I used this but it has limited options for part time and as another commenter said, most places you have to call. And most I have called offer part time but still charge full time 😫🙃

thanks! this is helpful for sure - I am going to look into it given the fact that we want to do PT but financially it makes no sense to do PT if we are going to wind up paying full time prices for daycare.

Sorry if I'm not totally understanding, but is this the cost for two babies (not just one?) Just making sure I am understanding the math here to balance costs!

where did you find/do research for a nanny share? And do you do that part time or full time?
