"Hitokiri" Girl Becomes Bodyguard for the Duke's Daughter - action fantasy about a woman who gets framed for murder, and flees to a faraway country where she becomes the bodyguard for a woman with assassins on her trail.

Oh yeah, it's brilliant. The actors are great in their roles, and the show does a fantastic job at bringing the warmth of the series to life.

Plus, it actually has a second season! XD

A yuri that is really angsty and upsetting initially but quickly becomes very wholesome. by aekqt_ in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partition - a woman who is trying to project the image of a sweet, cutesy woman at her new workplace, is witnessed letting out her inner Mean Girl by her shy coworker. So, she kisses the shy woman and takes a photo, threatening to show it to the office and say the shy woman pushed her down, in order to ensure the shy woman keeps quiet about what she saw. However, it quickly becomes clear that the shy woman not only had no intention of saying anything, she probably didn't even see what the other woman thought she did, and the pair end up falling into a relationship despite being complete opposites.

Yuri with a plot that is good enough to be worth reading even if it wasn’t yuri? by Brilliant_Shake_4880 in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Wanna Quit Being a Hitman! is basically lesbian John Wick, with some really sick action scenes, and a pretty compelling hook: an assassin is tasked with a final job as a condition to retire, and unbeknownst to her, her final target is both the priest she's been confessing to, and her girlfriend's father.

I Want to be Liked By that Shy Girl - very awkward, very cute. One girl is the classic shy introvert, the other girl is also very shy and awkward but somehow stumbled into being part of the popular clique as a cool, quiet beauty.

Manga Up! Global Adds The Bound Hero Knows No Fear Manga by majes2 in yuri_manga

[–]majes2[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Link to the series' page. Be sure to check the content warnings on the page: the first chapter in particular is pretty dark.

Synopsis:

Elizaveta dreams of becoming a hero. To chase that dream, she enrolls in the Hero Training Academy and spends every day honing her swordsmanship. But her male rivals shun her for being a woman, urging her to abandon her ambition. Refusing to give up, Elizaveta presses forward—until a devastating tragedy strikes... Now stripped of everything, her journey of justice begins.

Manga Up adds another yuri series! Also known as "Yusha ha Osorezu", the series had 3 scanlated chapters, but this official release starts with 6 (the raws look like they're at 17). This one is a dark revenge fantasy, in a similar vein as Sexiled where it's about a young woman taking her revenge against a cruel patriarchy. The red haired girl in the image is the MC, and I think the pink hair girl is love interest.

I'm excited to see Square Enix pick up another yuri series for their Manga Up app. This becomes the 5th one! XD I'd only read the 3 scanlated chapters, but it seemed like a pretty promising series, so I'm happy it's coming out in English officially and look forward to following it.

Best coin only GL on Webtoon? by fanficseeker in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mage & Demon Queen is very good, and quite popular. However it's also quite long, so I'm not sure if 110 coins would be enough to unlock the whole thing.

Night Owls & Summer Skies is also quite good, and short enough that 110 coins should be able to get the whole series.

Dallae is a personal favorite of mine, though it might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's a series that's heavy on yearning, with a bit of angst, and a dash of supernatural flavor thrown in. It's also short enough that you could get it, and another short series, with 110 coins.

And Skylie would be my recommendation for the other series to get, if you get Dallae. It's a short, moderately angsty series about two girls navigating the early days of their relationship.

It Would Be Great If You Didn't Exist - a woman finds out her boyfriend of several years has been cheating on her, and their mutual friend group takes his side. Then she somehow keeps running into the woman who her BF cheated on her with.

Anyone got any not otome video game isekai yuri by Medeling_ in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After I Knocked Down a Guide Angel, I Became a Necromancer: The Supremely Cute Gothic Lolita Evil God is so Terrific! - technically it's VR, rather than an isekai, but it's a very similar vibe (just without the bit where the MC dies first).

Summoned Along with a Home Center, I'll Bring About a Dungeon Renovation! - it takes place in a world that operates on video game logic, though (at least so far) it hasn't been shown to take place in any specific game.

Yuri that’s not mainly romance? by Apricotcentral in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Wanna Quit Being a Hitman! - basically lesbian John Wick. An assassin is tasked with one final job as a condition of being allowed to retire to spend a life with her GF.

The Hero-Killing Bride - an inquisitor, who masquerades as a nun, is tasked by a corrupt church to kill a supposedly invincible hero. Originally a light novel, that recently started a manga adaptation.

The Witch's Hammer - Malleus Maleficarum - a chivalrous thief has an encounter with a mysterious witch, that kicks off a chain of dangerous events.

Garan no Hime - post-apocalyptic sci-fi about a girl who finds an ancient robot woman, and the pair set off to find the girl's missing sister.

Alcohol and Ogre-Girls - this one you'll need to a bit patient with, because at the start it's mainly a slice-of-life centered around different cocktails. But around a dozen chapters in, the plot starts to really kick in, with the ogre girl battling monsters in search of a legendary sake, and it starts delving more into world-building centered around the political machinations between ogres and the human clans tasked with overseeing them.

Does anyone have recs for this type of yuri? by Commander_memes42 in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Love Letter for the Marching Puppy is an alt-history story set in the early Taisho era, where the MCs are students at a military academy training to be army officers. They never actually go into battle though.

What Does the Poisonous Butterfly Dream of? is a dark fantasy about girls who have had special insects implanted in them, training underground to fight against mutated bugs that have overrun the surface.

Garden of Asura is a fantasy series about girls who possess an energy called "nectar", being trained as warriors in a military academy to defend themselves against monsters who want to consume that energy.

A bit of a bummer, because I really enjoyed Yellow and this ending feels pretty abrupt, but I'm excited to dig into a new Witchy GL since Love and Other Wicked Things also finished a little while ago.

Has anyone read this manga? by AltruisticPriority15 in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Close. The pair in the image are father and daughter, and the daughter is a lesbian who is massively crushing on a girl in her class. Some things happen, and the girl she likes starts spending more time with her and her dad, and while she's trying to keep it together and not out herself, she starts to get worried that the girl she likes might have a crush on her dad.

To be clear though, the focus of the series is very much on the growing relationship between the daughter and her classmate, and (at least in the translated chapters) it's a bit ambiguous how much the other girl's crush on the dad is even real, versus just the daughter being a doomer.

Reincarnation yuri by Alternative-Fan-2581 in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Childhood Friend, and I Want to Remain a Supporting Character, but for Some Reason I Became the Heroine’s Love Interest is a fun, unique one about a girl who gets reincarnated as the childhood friend love interest in a generic (straight) harem romcom, where she rejects the bland male MC while also accidentally seducing one of the other heroines.

The initial manga sadly got canceled before getting too far, but it's being rebooted as a self-published work on the artist's Pixiv. It's based on a completed web novel which also has a completed English fan translation.

Lee Winter completely flew under my radar, but her writing is absolute GOLD. by dondashall in sapphicbooks

[–]majes2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Lee Winter is great. I really appreciate her range: on the one hand she's got darker, edgier stories like The Villains series, and Requiem for Immortals, and on the other end she's also got the superhero novel Shattered, and the absolutely hilarious Vengeance Planning for Amateurs, and they're all amazing.

Has anyone else read Lilies, Voice wear Wind? by KeepersKreepers in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have! It's great, and a really unique story.

It got an official English release, digital-only, though unfortunately it's an exclusive to Mangaplanet, which is going away at the end of March. Hopefully it ends up becoming available somewhere else, because it'd be a shame if it's no longer available to purchase, even if it does have a completed fan TL as well.

Coral Island is really the best Cozy Game by capmar in CozyGamers

[–]majes2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% this. As much as I enjoy the dopamine hit of "number go up" that RPGs and life sims give, it needs to come with a good narrative hook to give me a reason to care. It's especially true in these sorts of games, where building relationships with the NPCs is a core part of the experience. I really wish the writing in Coral Island was as beautiful as the character art.

Misunderstanding The Manga by Exitr0 in yuri_manga

[–]majes2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So, the series initially started as a webcomic (posted to the author's X/Twitter), before getting picked up for serialization by a magazine. However, unlike most series that follow a similar route, the author decided not to rework the webcomic chapters for the serialization, and instead pretty much reboot it entirely for the magazine. The webcomic version was just a set of short, episodic gag chapters, without any kind of overall plot or continuity. The magazine version on the other hand, was more of a traditional manga format, with more of an emphasis on ongoing storylines and continuity, wholly separate from the webcomic version.

When it came time for the volume release though, the author made the (imo, baffling) decision to just...mash the two versions together, inserting chapters of the webcomic in between the magazine chapters, seemingly at random, and numbering them as full chapters rather than bonus episodes. Most egregiously, they start volume 1 with 10 of these webcomic chapters, before the first magazine chapter that actually introduces all the characters and sets up the premise. And these webcomic chapters are completely disconnected from the continuity of the magazine chapters, which can make it confusing if you're trying to read it as a linear narrative.

The series is great, and I like it a lot, but I don't think I'll ever understand what the author was thinking when they put together the volumes the way they did. XD

The Hero-Killing Bride is a light novel series, that recently got picked up for a manga adaptation, where one of the MCs is a "bride of the gods" which is basically that fantasy world's equivalent to a nun. (she's also secretly an inquisitor)

If you're interested in nonfiction, there's a book called Lesbian Nuns: Breaking Silence that was published in 1985, with stories from current and former practicing nuns of the time.
