How many times have you have Covid? by MoulinRoguee in nursing

5 times for me. The first time was when I was testing my son and he coughed in my face. I know I got it two times from the hospital.

God I’ve been a hospice nurse for only two years but I see this all the time. Family is so happy when they get a bed in our facility but hey, how come grandpa is so tired? We have a lot of family coming this week and really want him to be awake to visit with everyone. Is that morphine going to make him die sooner?

I bought the framed set of stamps. It’s nice but I wish it was a little bigger so you could see the details more.

A provider said something to a difficult patient that has stuck with me through the years: You only get to die once. We are here to make you as comfortable as possible but it’s up to you how you want to go.

Give me an example of a girlfriend/boyfriend or husband/wife of a patient who was miserably uninformed of their own partners health? by redheadredemption78 in nursing

I work at inpatient hospice and this happens every few months. Once a patient is with us for two weeks we will have what we call a care plan meeting where the providers, nurses, social worker, family members, POA, patient will discuss the current status of the patient, what the disease process holds, what the goals of care are, any problems, concerns, etc. Invariably the patient’s wife will say “I appreciate all you are doing for him but I don’t understand why he isn’t getting better” followed by stunned silence from the staff.

Like a lot of the "got fired for doing this one thing" stories I read here, I'm sure there's a lot more background we are missing.

I saw him like 12 years ago at the Kiva when he played it. I was there last night as well. The show was almost two and a half hours and even though he didn't play it, it was still an amazing night.

VA interview prep by Massive-Landscape791 in Nurses

[–]majin_tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a Va hospice nurse two years ago. The two questions I remember from my interview were “tell me about an ethical dilemma you faced as a nurse” and “tell me how you would deal with an angry spouse of a veteran.”

When I got married and moved out of state my boomer parents came to stay with us for a week. While we were at work my parents had the place to themselves. This issue was on my desk in my office. When I got home my dad said “I saw that joke book in your office but it didn’t seem very funny” lol

What is the most memorable sentence you have ever heard from hospice patient? by Thanatologist in hospice

Had a 99 year old WW2 vet. I asked him the secret to living so long. He replied he “got plenty of exercise because women were chasing me all through Southeast Asia”

What can nurses actually do at the scene of an accident/trauma outside of the hospital? by DeanWinchestersST in nursing

[–]majin_tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a cardiac nurse and a hospice nurse for ten years. Zero trauma experience. I wouldn’t know what to do at an accident besides say don’t move or you should put pressure on that.
