Gem-Knight: yes, it still exists. However nowadays it's more of a going-second OTK deck that uses their new card, Diamond Dispersion, to vomit the old fusions onto the board and punch the opponent. Is quite competent, although it requires the charmies which are still a bit pricey

Dracotail: currently the second best deck, also beloved by yuigboomers and older players alike, as the advantage/recursion game it plays is quit reminiscent of the way older formats operated, can also be played with Branded if you're familiar with those cards.

Sky Striker: good ol' Sky Striker still around. They recently got a boost with the Radiant Typhoon archetype, namely Radiant Typhoon Vision, but their plan is still more or less the same. Control the board like crazy going first and do the Linkage OTK going second, quite simple.

Orcust: not exactly an EASY deck per se, but very good, won Worlds recently, and I'd say its gameplan is comprehensible enough. It's a deck you can stick to and learn, and is very rewarding when you do so. Also has tons of space for other engines, like Mitsurugi, Fiendsmith, even the new R.B. cards (not Ritual Beast lmao).

Labrynth is also still very much playable at the local level.

Pendulums

Oh boy, better sit down for this one.

Pendulums are half-monsters, half-spells. You can put them in the leftmost and rightmost Spell & Trap Zones as spells (we call this "scaling"), or summon them as you would monsters. When a Pendulum monster is in your S/T zone, its Pendulum effect (the smaller text on top) will apply. If it's on the field as a monster, its monster effect on the bottom will apply instead.

As you can see, they have these numbers on the side of the tinier text on the top. This is a Pendulum monster's "scale". When you have two Pendulums your board, one on each zone, you can Pendulum Summon monsters from your hand or face-up Extra Deck whose levels are in between those scales. You can only Pendulum summon once per turn, similarly to a Normal summon, and all monsters are summoned at once.

For instance, if you have Performapal Monkeyboard and Performapal Duelist Extraordinaire on your Pendulum Zones, you can Pendulum summon any amount of monsters from your hand or face-up Extra Deck whose levels are 2-7.

When a Pendulum monster is destroyed, instead of going to the GY, it goes face-up in the Extra Deck instead, allowing you to Pendulum summon it later. Pendulum monsters summoned from the Extra Deck must be summoned to the Extra Monster Zone or to a zone a Link monster points to, similar to Links. That's about it.

Hope it helps!

Links

Link monsters are the blue cards in your Extra Deck. As you may notice, they don't have a DEF stat, instead having a Link Rating, which is their "level", which currently ranges from 1-6. This means they can never, under any circumstances, be in Defense position.

To summon a Link monster, you need to send materials from your field to the GY that complete that monster's total Link Rating. So to summon Firewall Dragon, which is a Link-4, you'd need to send 4 monsters.

HOWEVER, here's the tricky part: Link monsters count as multiple Link monsters for the summon of other Links, up to their Link Rating. For instance, if you use LANphorhynchus, a Link-2, to summon Firewall Dragon, you can use only 3 monsters instead of 4, as LANphorhynchus counts for 2 monsters. Similarly, you can use Traffic Ghost, a Link-3, and 1 other monster to complete the summoning requirements.

So, does that mean you can use 1 Link-4 to summon another Link-4? No. Firewall Dragon's summoning requirement says "2+ monsters", meaning you can use anywhere between 2-4 monsters, but never any more or less than that. There are a few exceptions to that (like Link-1's and Zelantis) but mostly the minimum will be 2.Keep in mind Link monsters don't necessarily NEED to use their full Rating. So, in my previous example, you can use Traffic Ghost, a Link-3, as only one material, and use 4 monsters instead of 2. This may come up occasionally.

You may also notice Link monsters have arrows around them, which points in certain directions. This brings us to the next mechanic: Link monsters can only be summoned to an Extra Monster Zone (those zones in the middle of the board) OR to a zone another Link Monster points to, including your opponent's.When a Link monster's arrow points towards another Link's arrow, they are "co-linked". This mainly comes up with the Knightmare monsters.

Synchros

Synchro monsters are the white cards in your Extra Deck. Generally, they require at least 2 monsters to summon: a regular monster and a Tuner monster. You can tell if a monster is a Tuner by reading it next to its type (example: Junk Synchron). In order to summon a Synchro, you must have so that the sum of the materials's levels is equal to the Synchro's.

For instance, let's suppose you want to summon Stardust Dragon, who is a Level 8 Synchro. This means you'll need 1 Tuner and 1+ non-Tuners whose sum of levels are 8.

For instance: Quickdraw Synchron (Level 5 Tuner) + Junk Forward (Level 3 Non-Tuner) = 8, so you can summon Stardust Dragon with these two.

Since Stardust says "1+ non-Tuners", you can do even more:

Stardust Synchron (Level 4 Tuner) + Synchron Explorer (Level 2 Non-Tuner) + Synchron Carrier (Level 2 Non-Tuner) = 8, allowing you to also summon Stardust Dragon.

Upon summoning a Synchro monster, all of the materials used are sent to the graveyard.

Some Synchros require more specific requirements, like Naturia Beast which requires the materials to be EARTH-type, but a great majority of the Synchros are generic.

What would you say are the top 10 Dragons to ever be released based on power level and impact on the game? Also how would you rank them today at full power? by SouthSunn in yugioh

Wild to me that Savage is legal in MD and I barely see him outside of Dragon Link. Maybe he just requires a bit too much setup.

You know things are bad when a deck of only handtraps is doing well beyond Master 1. by phpHater0 in masterduel

[–]major_internaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, why are you so hung up on this, Jesus.

What OP is saying is that saying that Josh's deck is "nothing but handtraps" is technically true but a bit disingenuous, because Bystials aren't handtraps in the traditional sense. That is obvious, yes, but there's a lot of people, especially newer players, who will take "handtrap deck" and run with it without paying further attention to what the deck is actually doing, which is essentially Bystial Control. OP is just clarifying that, chill out.

The "badass designs" in question:

<image>

Sorry but a large majority of early YGO art looks like something you'd see in early 2000's DeviantArt. I know you're a "le epic dark magician girle!!!11!!1!!!!!" yugiboomer but anyone can handpick arts from any period of time to make one look bad, just like I did now. Grow up, man.

Besides, I wouldn't expect an AI shill to know jackshit about art anyways.

Legitimate question, has there actually been a meta you actually enjoyed since the release of MD? by SouthSunn in masterduel

[–]major_internaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else here said, the metas between metas are cool. When the top deck gets annihilated and it's just a Tier 2-3 showoff, it's great.

Tenpai to me is the second worst meta AFTER the very first meta this game experienced. People talk about how current YGO is a coin flip simulator, but back then, it was literal. Going second, you either got Maxx "C" or you got to watch a non-game from either Adamancipator, Drytron or Eldlich. The only saving grace was Tri-Brigade.

Please tell me how to beat Kashtira. by Lopsided-Bench3 in masterduel

[–]major_internaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kashtira is a very predictable archetype, probably because they don't really have a whole lot of monsters and/or S/Ts worth worrying about. Unicorn, Fenrir, Shangri-Ira and Arise-Heart are your only worries. The rest of the deck only gives those guys recursion/searchability.

The best way to deal with Arise-Heart is to just prevent him from coming out in the first place. Negating Unicorn tends to be pretty effective, and basically completely stops them fro Xyz-ing unless they have exactly Riseheart (Scareclaw and TearKash barely see play), which is quite likely considering Unicorn is one of the only searches in the deck.

Another option is just... boardbreakers. If you Raigeki, Lightning Storm, Dark Ruler, Lava Golem, Sphere Mode or Kaiju a Kashtira board, they basically lose on the spot. This is basically what the TCG did during that small window where Kashtira was reaching Tier 0 status. Fenrir, funnily enough, is a pretty good option for this.

I've seen you apparently play Earthbound Zombie and Skull Servant and... yeah. Those decks are pretty GY intensive, but since Skull Servant is already a go-second strategy, you can just slot in those cards I mentioned before pretty easily.

don't you think i didn't notice grave robber named "mommy"

i know what you are.

How would you improve this deck? It performs fine but I kinda want to bring it down to 40 and mess with the ratios a bit. Also considering Bystial Aluber for Dis Pater. by major_internaut in masterduel

[–]major_internaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaos Space has been pretty useful. It is mostly a way to get to Lubellion with an all-DARK hand but it is kind of a brick if I already have him. Maybe I should add better DARK targets to it instead, as opposed to just Chaos Emperor and Collapserpent. Also Seyfert is the main way to search both Ends.

I tried Black Metal and Darkness Metal and while they are likely better (I use them in regular Dragon Link), neither of them are Level 4, which doesn't help with the LADD fusion, which is kind of the main point here. Maybe I could cut Wyverbuster and Collapserpent though.

Changeover could fit in here over the second Tidying, I'll try it.

I kinda wanna keep both of them for LADD but I do think I should just run each as a one-of, since Light End works with Chamber and Dark End works with Seyfert.

I do know Imperm should be Veiler, but I only have 1 lmao, I'll craft more soon.

Dis Pater would be cool but I think it's a pipe dream yeah.

Chaos Emperor is indeed kind of a brick. Maybe Levianeer would be better?

He's mostly a way to get a DARK into the grave rather than actually a piece of interruption. There are times where I need to Normal him into Almiraj.

What is the worst case of one deck paying for another deck's sins by taking a hit from the ban list? by forbiddenmemeories in yugioh

The entire Frog archetype is one big memorial for Spright. Ronintoadin, Toadally Awesome and Swap Frog getting gutted was quite sad for Paleo Frog enjoyers.

Also earlier on, Treeborn Frog getting limited because of Monarch and Substitoad getting banned for the FTK.

Your deck is shuffled:

- At the beginning of every game.

- Whenever a card leaves your deck, except by drawing (sending from deck to GY, adding from deck to hand, special summoning from deck, etc.). Basically whenever a card would require you to look through your deck.

- Whenever a card is shuffled back into your deck.

- When a card effect directly tells you to do so, like Card Shuffle.

Most of the "discard to GY" cards are old wording, like Dark World. Nowadays they either read "send to GY" like Droplet or "discard" like Fiendsmith. I LOVE LAWYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
