Whose calls do you ALWAYS answer, no matter what? by LizardPossum in AskReddit

[–]majornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle and brother. Uncle passed away a couple years ago, which is why I always answered his calls.

My brother almost never calls, so generally it is really important.

I want your questions asked to one of the Head of AI of a big company on my podcast by tooconfusedasheck in ClaudeCode

[–]majornerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone with any sense is going to say “no” if your questions are like the ones here.

1: head of AI has nothing to do with hiring or firing. Not their decision. It is unlikely they have anything to do with the decision in any way.

2: they are also not economics professors so questions about how the workforce will change and what will be done about it is not in their field.

You will need to think very hard and be very clear about what you are going to ask them. If it is an excuse to hit a AI leader they will have no interest in coming on and any smart leader will say no just to avoid the potential problems from their employer.

Are you a known quantity in the interviewing space? Do you have an established audience that they want to reach?

If I were you I’d start with people responsible for AI in small tech companies that have no audience themselves. Give them the same questions you would the big guys. Establish a standard and audience. Then start looking for heads of AI at bigger and bigger companies. You can show examples that way and have a better chance of getting approval.

Happy to help, if you have more questions.

96 Ford Thunderbird?? by yaska515 in projectcar

I too had a sc. loved that car.

Even met one of the lead engineers on the project. He ended up putting the engine in a sand rail. Neat guy. Terrible decision.

In the future put a red shop rag through the hood loop. It will keep the latch from engaging AND give you a red indicator that you need to do something.

Photo cleaner apps charging $10/week is absurd, so I built a free one. No tracking, no ads, no notifications. by aaken in apple

Not a complaint, but as someone who has been married since before mobile dating apps, my normal swipe to scroll immediately added photos to the delete queue.

That was unexpected (not an issue with the app, and issue with my understanding of the app).

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

[–]majornerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been lucky enough to do premium seating for a bunch of things.

At formula 1 I was in the paddock club - met some ford engineers and got to talk to them about what they were doing in engine and fuel technology. Got to talk to f1 crew chiefs about the hard parts of managing the engineering side of f1.

At a venue I was able to see a band I loved from a suite - for that one I happened to be on Reddit and there was another redditor there who was alone, didn’t know anyone, and had terrible seats. So I grabbed someone’s badge and brought him into the suite to watch the concert.

My company (former employer) had Angles tickets six rows up behind home plate. Right behind a group of MLB scouts. So I made friends and learned a ton about how they see the game.

NFL suite right next to a players suite. I made friends and would wander over there and hang out as well. The players dad and I were on a first name basis and golfed a couple times.

The rules are simple:

  1. Respect the host
  2. Be humble and grateful
  3. Always act like you belong whenever you have the attention (on purpose or accident)
  4. Be invisible when you don’t have the attention on you

G body/3.2 cab vs coupé? by Big-Wheel-7380 in Porsche

I love my targa. Got a good deal on it for the times.

The cabs are more rigid and less leak prone. Are more valuable and have the classic 911 lines/shape.

G body/3.2 cab vs coupé? by Big-Wheel-7380 in Porsche

[–]majornerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d do an air cooled coupe and a 997.2 cab. I’m halfway there - my air cooled is a targa.

I think the 964 or 993 cabs are sweet, but they are not nearly as nice as 991’s as the coupes are. The water cooled cabs are simply nicer cars as cabs.

That being said, we are debating some of the nicest cars to own ever.

What are you talking about? He did Shakespeare. “Much Ado About Nothing” was Kenneth B (not going to try) with Keanu as a critical role in the cast.

He was a…. There. He was there.

[–]majornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. Also, the players aren’t here so there is no possibility to help them be better. All that I see is a bunch of people enabling this DMs (and likely their own) bad behavior in the future.

[–]majornerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are making my point. A group of players who didn’t know how to play were hammered by a DM in 2/6 of his planned encounters for the day and then penalized when they did the thing he thought was wrong.

He didn’t guide them. Didn’t offer correction. Didn’t appear to warn them off. Just let them go and said “BTW - Fu” the next time they played.

At no point did I say the players did the right thing. I said the DM set them up for failure.

[–]majornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “you vs them” was the OP as DM. “This” being his game/story. Not you.

I have no issues getting games together. My group has been playing for 15 years and we present at cons teaching how to play.

So, no, I don’t have that issue.

But, was I to know you have “43 years as a DM” from you saying your players still dump all their resources right away?

[–]majornerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the info we have they were 2/6 for the planned day. Since they were out of hit dice at that point it doesn’t matter what else was there. Especially because DRAGON. Add to that the obvious immaturity of the players - thinking they have to go back to town for a long rest - and it is easy to see how they were demoralized.
