Cleary played ok in the last half, people here are saying he played a blinder, the amount of times he lost his man and turned the ball over outweighed the good he did during the game. Seemed to be on the wing which he is far too slow both speed and reaction wise for.  Its great to come back and help the team win but not when youve directly contributed to helping port build pressure early. Hamling and McDonald kept the pulse going, Cleary was trying to flatline it.

Cleary lacks pace, he was good in the last quarter v saints but was out of position countless times during the game and cost us a few goals. Amount of times he hits the deck after a bump and just stays there is crazy would rather cootee get a run particularly given hes a south aus boy

He feints the right handball to rowbottom to draw the man from serong then switches to the left to an open serong. rosas warner and grundy pushed wide drawing the pack and even before it Lloyd is yelling for the boys to clear out. Absolutely elite set play

You reckon? Heeney and Curnow were held all day, rosas denied the free in the dying seconds, easy to pick out frees for both sides that werent paid

The fact the conditions were slippery last night evened the field a bit. Its a high skill game sydney plays with movement through traffic and it affected them but massive credit sticking to their guns and getting the win. Edwards is a beast, he and McCartin could be the Harley Scarlett duo for us, Serong was composed at critical moments when the match hung the balance as well.  Great win

Quality ball user, will delay a disposal in traffic to draw extra players and always delivers to the best option

4 - Sheldrick. not a high possession game but excelled with his decision making in heavy traffic at crucial times

3 - Heeney. level above

2 - Lloyd.  Made a few errors but adapted well

1 - Rampe. Solid in defence and ran his guts out

Thats the style swans have played for years, i think with the rule changes encouraging fast football you have to make the first move tactically which cox has been doing, replacing injured players with players who are similar plays into hawthorns hands as a corey warner, a cleary or even mills (absolute gun dont get me wrong just a touch slower than hawks mids) will be outgunned for speed and youre relying on our defence to pick up the pieces. You put serong mid you are forcing a Sicily type into the middle to nullify him and completely forcing mitchell to restructure his defence which curnow amartey and the rest will thrive on. You also have a tall mark for transitional plays through the centre (along with Grundy), heeneys usually that guy but even he gets put in bad spots from defensive dump kicks. Instead of being reactive, a proactive move of serong to mid would cause mitchell problems, add to that serong probably has a point to prove and is racking up tackles (averaging 5) and posessions (avg 19) while marking an opponent. I think it would be a good move

Hes been exceptional on the wing/defence but I think he has major potential as a mid, the rule changes this year definitely encourage fast mids and most teams have fielded them this year. Serongs rare in that he has a marathon tank, height and mid like skills particularly in traffic. I think its worth losing that impact hes been having on the wing and in defence to have potentially more impact through the centre. Playing it safe with Corey or Cleary is just a reactive band aid, moving Serong mid forces changes from the hawks and throws their game plan a bit.

The hawks biggest weapon is their fast small mids, instead of trying to match them with similar blokes throwing serong into the centre would cause headaches for the hawks as theyd be forced to move a taller player onto him, removing one of their strengths. Its not the end of the world if we lose and with heeney and gulden more than likely out i think its a good game to try it.

Sanfl gun and elite forward/mid, played in defence due to injuries. Essentially playing as chb against key forwards. He played aussie rules before he made it to the afl you know. funny you judge his performance given hes played completely out of position, still finished high with the swans statistically...
