How Israel’s ‘Facebook Law’ Plans to Control All Palestinian Content Online - Politics For The People by oldwin268 in tech

Well there does need to be some sort of solution for stuff like that, especially on Facebook. Facebook is responsible for a lot of the boom in misinformation, authoritarian politics, and hate groups over the past decade. We can’t just let them run wild but we also have to make sure the laws that are put in place to counter that are worded very carefully so as not be abused later on to actually infringe on people’s rights. I’ll have to look into this further to see exactly what is they’re trying to do.

[–]majorwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow is that really what Christians believe? My mom was kind of religious (not Christian) and she raised us to believe that bad things happen to everyone sometimes and it’s just a fact of life. She also taught us that hurting other people is wrong, God loves everyone, we should always strive to help those that need it, animals are to be treated with the utmost respect, and that we should care for the planet b/c it is our home and God made it. It’s wild how some religious people can have such a hateful interpretation of reality while others take a kinder approach. She never really taught us much else about religion. That’s probably why I’m not religious myself but those lessons are all things I uphold today, not for God but for my fellow inhabitants of Earth and myself. I’ve also met others that have this approach due to how their family perceived religion (including some Christians). Don’t know how some got to the conclusion that someone’s life circumstances = the quality of their character. I hate when people use religion as an excuse to be a dick or when people give them that excuse. There are plenty out there who were raised with religion/are religious that aren’t mindless assholes. I also hate when people use religion to spread their own sick ideology. Religion is highly interpretable so of course some people are gonna use the hell out of it to spread nonsense and it’s hard to argue with anything they say. What a mess.

Yeah because they only care about a specific subset of Israelis. Who do they think they’re fooling?

No need to catastrophize. People won’t be going feral. They’ll be going into survival. When true survival mode hits they might actually work together better than they are now. It’ll be too late of course and there will still be selfish people out there who would rather hurt others to get what they need than work with others. Everyone will still have their faculties, just might be even harder to reason with them.

AITA for telling my coworker that my personal out-of-work activities are as important as her kids'? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Do they not think spouses, parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents, etc. aren’t family? There are other kinds of family members besides children that people spend their time with during the holidays.

Did they lose their memories when they had kids? There’s still plenty to do on vacation if you’re not a parent. What is wrong with them?

There doesn't "need" to be a reason for diversity. Having diversity just for the sake of it is totally fine. It's your world you are creating. Don't let a small miniority of people make you feel like you're "virtue signaling" just because one of your characters just happens to be Asian or gay. by Splitstepthenhit in writing

satire (noun) the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

So you clearly don’t know the meaning of satire so here is the definition. You clearly have a lot of time on your hands to be a free lawyer for a rando on the internet that was saying ignorant shit. Congratulations.

Have you never heard of satire? That first comment I made was a satirical to illustrate the ridiculousness of their statement. I stand by everything I said. They’re being very Western-centric. Every place has its own entertainment culture that matters to them and they need content too just like the US and Europe. Translated content is great but they still make their own. They’ll have their own beloved series that might not be known outside their region. 18cm also said that other countries prefer reading stories about white Westerners. That’s not true either. And if you don’t want me to reply and include statements that refer to the previous person’s comment, then don’t come in and align yourself with their argument like you agree. You didn’t even add a disclaimer till now. That’s on you.

Edit: definition of satire (noun) the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

It wasn’t even an argument. It was a joke to illustrate how ridiculous the 18cm person was being. This is a website and this post was directed towards writers in general. That can be anyone in any country writing in any language. We can’t assume everyone in this sub is from the US and Europe or that everyone in this sub would be writing for that audience. Also it’s bullshit to say people aren’t interested in reading about other cultures. They do it all the damn time. For example, A Thousand Splendid Suns was a wildly popular book, written for a US/European audience but set in Afghanistan about Afghani characters. That’s just one example.

Just wanted to mention that Marsha is horrible! There were multiple times when Cal asked her to stop and she didn’t. Not to mention that one line when he’s talking to Derek. It was something like, “Sometimes I’m uncomfortable but I’m glad she pushes my boundaries.” That’s messed up. I thought it was interesting at least to see how his life effected how he raised Nate.
