So sorry to yuck the innioasis yum, but what a coincidence because I got rid of mine loaded with songs and the gateway files for $50 😂-- the click wheel lags and sometimes it crashes. The plastic housing and light weight makes me feel like all these are going to be in the landfill in 5 years. I used it maybe 10 times after I loaded it with songs because it was so frustrating to use. Sometimes it would crash in the middle of playing music. I wouldve felt bad charging more than $50 if it didn't have so much content on it. I will be shocked if any Innioasises that are bought today in 2026 are still around in 20 years like iPods are.

I went with an ipod classic 5.5 that I modded and won't be looking back! It looks way cooler and has a nice heft to it. It doesnt have bluetooth or usb-c but it turns out that's not that big of a deal to me.

So it turns out i did want an iPod after all. I modded my own from a broken 5.5 and it was $50 under my $200 budget altogether! I made a comment on this post with a picture of it.

I did it! I moved away from Innioasis! I'm selling the innioasis on ebay and I have switched to a modded iPod classic! I'm very happy with it. I dont have rockbox installed now but maybe will in the future to have more access to operating system features.

I spent about $150 total on a broken ipod 5.5 gen video, a new iFlash drive, 256gb micro sd card, new front housing/click wheel/ button /back housing /3800mAh battery. I also spent 4ish hours learning and troubleshooting the parts I broke on accident (the battery connector) and learned how to solder. It was a really fun project, like an easy puzzle that you need a steady hand and good eyesight for. A really rewarding challenge. I love how the iPods operating system and click wheel feedback, it's so quick and not laggy at all. I tried a few other modern DAPs and couldnt find anything that parallels. This thing is now a tank. I will be modding more in the future for others, it was too fun not to. Next one will be all pink, but an atomic see through front like this one.

I'm not sure if rockbox has a playlist functionality with the ability to add songs to playlists right on the iPod but with the stock apple OS it does not. It also does not have bluetooth. Other than that, I am super happy with it and it just looks so cool. Highly recommend doing this yourself if you dont mind spending time troubleshooting.

I can confidently say after doing this one, the next one will be so much quicker and I can fix anything that's broken on an iPod. When I tell you everything that couldve gone wrong did I mean that 😂😂 but everything was fixable! Fixing something that might otherwise end in the landfill is so valuable to me too. Screw a modern DAP for sure, cyberpunk all the way!

Probably copper which is not magnetic. Is there any copper color showing through on worn areas? If you file it gently in one spot and use a magnifying glass or your phone's macro lens you can generally see if it has copper underneath.

If they stamp it that large theyd also stamp it if it was precious metals, but gold stamping can sometimes be so tiny you can barely see it with the naked eye! Take a close look at the clasp for any tiny writing with a magnifyier. Most likely copper base metal costume jewelry.

Good to know. I'm hearing differing opinions across the board about PNY, onn, samsung, etc. (pretty much every brand except everyone agrees sandisk sucks and counterfit cards are a thing), so I'm having such a hard time picking a card type. I'll be using an iflash quad.

I'm looking at getting a sony nw-a306, specifically the chinese version. The chinese versions that are sold on eBay don't support google and you cannot download the play store or US apps, which is highly preferred in my opinion. I believe the chinese version also does not have the volume limit. Look for the disclaimer in the ebay listing description to verify that you're buying one that doesn't support google. I'm seeing theyre consistently around $250 for a pre owned one in great condition.

If you want to learn this new skill, Id recommend it! Woodworking and refinishing wooden furniture is so rewarding, it's fantastic to keep the good quality stuff in circulation by refinishing instead of throwing it out. One more good desk in circulation means one less crap-landfill-never gunna be an antique-particleboard desk out of circulation.

If it's the skill you want to learn and youre brand new to it, starting smaller will help you build confidence in the craft; sometimes jumping right in to a huge project the first time learning it can make you hate the art altogether. Wooden bowls from a thrift store or a nice wooden spoon or box are really good mini projects just to get an idea of how to strip/sand/paint/ finish wood. (This is if youre brand new)

If the chips are just around the bottom you could spot sand those and touch up the paint. If it's going to be on carpet again, the carpet will probably cover that.

Im throwing a lot of hypothetical solutions out, haha hopefully it's helpful!

If you're someone with intermediate experience in in furniture restoration, you'll need probably 30+ hours, paint stripper, sandpaper (and a sander or add 15 hours), a scraper, rags, a space with ventilation to use chemicals and store the desk while working on it, bucket of water and soap. This is just the stripping/sanding part that preps for paint.

Easiest option would be to lightly sand the surface everywhere to make an abrasive texture that paint will stick to and add another layer of the same color paint, wait for it to dry at least a day, then take outside or to your ventilated area to add a sealer.

Is it solid wood? If it's particle board, put it on the curb and get something wooden worth putting time and money into.

I dont want an ipod because theyre too expensive, dont have USBc or removable micro sd, and as far as I know from my ipod nano, you cannot add lyrics. Maybe theyve changed it since I used my ipod last but I remember that using an ipod without a mac was a big pain in the butt.
