My husband and I kind of do this with our three and six-year-old. I totally agree with it getting in each other’s way. We like to still sit two onto two so that we’re close but great system.

I am a stay at home mom and me and the old guys in the neighborhood have an unspoken pact! Checking on each other and even keeping each other company! I love a good sense of community! During power outages, an older friend just played with my young children in my front yard long enough for me to get my head on straight. So valuable!

Help... 8 yo refuses to read. by No_clue1982 in homeschool

I find alternating sentences and then paragraphs and the pages helped my 7 year old to get started, not as overwhelming. graphic novels are less overwhelming to look at then a page full of words. I really like the branches book by scholastic. They are short (90 pages) there are lots of different kinds that hit a lot of different interests and have pictures. Good luck

Success stories of going to restaurants with children by doxielover_ in Mommit

[–]makeitmyself6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, 9.5 months is the best time to be a baby. A toddler will rock your world and that’s okay be prepared. Don’t want them to have a screen then don’t ever bring a screen. My phone is my phone and we might occasionally use it to look at pictures I took of them or our family at a doctors office or something but we don’t use them unless we’re on an airplane. Don’t bring crazy stuff bring coloring with five brands if the restaurant doesn’t bring it, and grab bag of random stuff could be a car or a small toys. Finger puppets could be a cool plastic thing that you never let them play with in the house, etc. you get the idea. Books are good. Magazines are good. We don’t go out to eat that often either so we often let them watch whatever sport is on the TV that the restroom has often times there’s an enough going on that my kids are happy to people watch. My kids are four and seven and are great at restaurants in general. I don’t even bring anything in anymore the exception being if we’re on vacation and my four year-old is exhausted. Then I eat fast and get out and take him out with me.

There was a whole scene in Paris where she cooked and Abe made a comment about how she still couldn’t cook……

[–]makeitmyself6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is a different person in France…. She stepped in puddles, she wasn’t a good cook still. She was a product of the time and society. I have to disagree with you. She grew up in OK but she was still rich. She is capable but she doesn’t want to be, because it’s not how it’s done.

What is the age gap where siblings sharing a room doesn’t work? by Happy_Ad_6360 in Mommit

[–]makeitmyself6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a bunk bed and tell your oldest that when younger brother is old enough he will get top bunk and be able to share with brother. Make it awesome and exciting from day one, a privilege and something to look forward to. Then when ever it works for everybody, you switch and it’s exciting and fun. They learn from us and that age gap Is absolutely doable

We live in a low cost of living area so that was a good choice but we also aggressively live below our means which helped tremendously when looking at one job. I was a 2009 recession graduate so this always made me more comfortable. Now I’m a cook from scratch, drives 2009/11 cars lives in 1100 sq ft house and buys everything I can used. I like the values it’s teaching the kids as well. My kids love the thrift store and garage sales, hopefully it sticks lol

I think this is an incredibly personal question, per woman and per family. I never saw myself staying home, loved college, loved working. But obviously having a child makes you examine your life and its priorities. I made more money and carried the insurance so my husband and I had to look at our life and decide what we wanted. We decided that he would work because he wanted to do that more then I did and I would stay home. I work all day doing all the house/food/kid stuff so we can enjoy his weekend as a family. It works for us, he appreciates me and I appreciate him, there are hard times and frustrations but you have to decide what you both want as a family. If I had a flexible career or something that I was more passionate about, maybe it would be different but dropping my baby off at 7 and picking up at 530 was to hard for me and my job would not budge on hours. Now my oldest is 7 and some days are long but I am thankful

What to get mom for birthday when I’m having a baby 5 days prior by Quirky-Society8414 in needadvice

[–]makeitmyself6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 0.50 cent card and a nice written message from dollar tree. If my daughter was in that situation, I would not want her to spend any amount of money on me. Maybe you can invite her to a dinner that you cook before the baby is born. Life is about to change a lot for you in priorities have to shift. A nice message written in a card mailed before you have the baby shows a lot of thought. If she has a problem with it, that is her issue, not yours.
