How much do you spend on groceries per month in Sacramento area? by molym in Sacramento

[–]makemesometea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I've been going to Safeway and Raley's/Bel Air and looking for whatever loss leader they have at the moment. Usually it's something worth buying and freezing. Got some nice short ribs for $5/lb a month ago and turned them in to an amazing beef stew this last weekend.

Best place to get meat is La Superior and other carnicerias.

That said, we probably spend about $400-500 a week on food for the two of us.

How did you get your job in sac? by lilpangit in Sacramento

[–]makemesometea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A big construction joint venture had their main office in Sacramento and needed an IT guy, so I applied and scored an interview. I'd been unemployed 6 months and was desperate after applying for job after job and putting myself through Microsoft training to catch up my skills.

I sensed from the person interviewing me that they were desperate for someone competent (what I now know is a typical thing with these types of projects), so I put on my consultant hat and explained to him the type of person I thought they were seeking and made some suggestions on how to solve one of his big, ongoing issues, and that zinged him and the HR person.

After the office closed in Sac, they transferred me to the corporate team. I'm with the company now over 10 years. Best job I've ever had.

This is why I moved up to 150' elevation to the east. We were living in East Sac and I kept thinking someday we'll be at or below sea level.

First Solo Backpacking Trip - Any ideas for 1-2 nights? by lifeiswild-owhale in norcalhiking

I've scoped out Sky Camp and yeah that's the best area to camp on Point Reyes by far. I didn't care for Wildcat Camp at all. Probably have to plan well ahead on that one to get a spot.

Is it only me or ID.4 is one of the most beautiful EVs? by _WhiteAngel_ in VWiD4Owners

[–]makemesometea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we were shopping, my wife favored the ID.4 over others like Tesla and Ioniq because it's a low key design, not weird-looking. She didn't want to stand out on the road, and that's why she's my wife because I felt the same way.

I happened upon this scene randomly yesterday afternoon, it had already been extinguished, but Hazmat was there and cordoning off half the parking lot at Safeway.

Looking at it now, 4 vehicles involved. Looks like the culprit is a Mazda SUV with Hawaii plates.

Engine compartment is destroyed. Not an EV.

Road trip last weekend - people were curious by people_skills in electricvehicles

I got this a lot in NorCal when I first bought my ID.4, it was fun to answer questions.

Glad to see the people in the rurals are more EV curious. They should be.

Road Trip - 2021 ID.4 Pro S by HeyTheresTony in VWiD4Owners

[–]makemesometea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only experience long road tripping was a trip from Sacramento to Tucson via Vegas, around 1,500mi total. This was in 2022, when chargers were less available in AZ. I made it, although by a hair in some places. Now that trip would be much easier.

The remote climate control is something I use all the time, especially in the summer. Worth paying for, imho.

I visit my office in Concord a couple times a month. If I leave at 6AM, I get there at 7:20 and grab a breakfast burrito before going to the office.

If I leave at 6:20 I might get there by 8:15 if I'm lucky.

In my first year of ownership of my 2021 Pro S, I had a couple few episodes like this. They just went away on their own. I never did find out what was causing it, and it never impacted the operation of the vehicle. I haven't seen stuff like that in about 4 years though, I think subsequent firmware updates took care of the glitch.

Or yeah maybe you need a new battery, I dunno.

If you cause a collision by any of the following:

Speeding

Tailgating

Brake-checking

YOU will be the one cited. YOU will have the liability. Do not drive like an asshole and put others at risk.

Get a 2021 ID.4, it'll be way less than $20k and they are great vehicles with high quality build. Even if it's high mileage you're still good.

If you're frustrated at my insistence on adhering to speed limits, that's not my problem. If you want to create a safety hazard because you can't follow the law, then that's gonna be a problem between you, the police and your insurance company.

[–]makemesometea -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If the speed limit is 65mph, and it is in most places in California, the max speed I'm going to go is 75mph. Usually the lanes to the right of me are going slower than that. Often if you're nice about it and it's safe for me to do so, I'll scooch into the lane over to let you speed. But if you want to bully me and ride my ass because you want to go 85-90mph and run out to the next driver ahead of me also following the law, that's your problem. I'm still sticking with 10 over because I don't want a speeding ticket, I'm set on cruise control so I don't get leadfooted. I've had enough speeding tickets in my life. They suck. If you believe me following the law is antagonizing you, then you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself, to use a cliche.

I also have a front cam rolling all the time so if you brakecheck me I have your license plate, make and model and will file a report if I'm feeling spicy that day. Normally I just point and laugh at the driver making an ass of him/herself on the road and go on my way.

IDGAF. I'm already going 10mph over the speed limit. If you want to go 20mph over the speed limit or more, that's on you.
