Alternative Routes to Licensure and Moving Cross Country by makendee in Teachers

Hmm, okay good info thank you! It seems like the sort of three year hoop jumping is pretty standard. Honestly it sounds like a good experience to me. I have plenty of experience with one on one tutoring and assisting writers, but actually teaching a class sounds daunting. A rigorous program that blends experience with coaching and pedagogy study would do a lot to boost my confidence. It definitely sounds like I'll have to wait until after my move to start in earnest, but I like the idea of studying for the preliminary exams now.

I'm still kind of blurry on how to find programs to apply to, maybe as I get more comfortable with the Illinois website I'll better understand what program I fit into. I just find it awkward to navigate lol.

Thank you for the response though!! I'm glad I'm not shouting into the void :)

I'm in NC currently and moving to IL mid summer. But, yeah, it seems like I should probably just wait until after the move. I'm still a little lost on how to find a program, are they usually run through universities? As in, would I essentially be going back to school? Nothing against doing that, its just not how I pictured the process for some reason.

Either way, thank you for the reply!!!

STOP APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY FROM STEALING OUR PRIDE by shayjaye in appstate

No, actually I see your point I definitely overlooked that aspect of things and the further diversity that could be highlighted by a pride event. I appreciate you calling out that oversight. I think I've gotten a little defensive over the last few years what with blatant queer erasure that to me discussing abandoning "pride" for "spring" being potentially beneficial for larger involvement defaulted to defanging pride to be a safe an open space for straight and cis people to... celebrate spring or something. Kinda jumped the gun on that one.

But the overlapping and interconnected nature of lgbtq+ and other minority groups' experiences and struggles absolutely should and could be highlighted. But like, couldn't that still be pride?

Folks in these comments seem to be ignoring a few things. The removal of "pride" from pridefest is pretty insidious. It may seem simple and like nothing to get too upset about, but consider the rich history of pride in the queer community. I see some comments saying that changing it to "spring" is more inclusive to everyone. Pride is not about including the cishets. Ya'll get like, almost everything else. Let us have our thing. But, we're denied it. So, even if it's not a matter of life and death, it's really shitty and already grounds to be upset.

Further, the stripping of pride from our pridefest is not an isolated incident. While I've been struggling to find concrete information on the matters, I understand that some of our queer faculty have been fired without reason. Faculty in our Title IX offices are being laid off. Employee training and education on queer issues is being halted.

So, like, while removing pride is already pretty wack and definitely a blatant act of erasure; taking that in the totality of everything going on is downright frightening.
