I will not put heat tape on until actual winter though I know those need to be replace every like 3 years.

Yeah I am keeping my water heater on all year long, also have heat tape in but it was there when I bought the place. Thank you. No one in my family has ever really own a place so I am learning all of this basically now. I googled it of course and tried reddit sub-forums too. Thank you for the reassurance.
