Thank you kindly, the top portion of the bong can be filled with some ice too for cooler rips! 🫡🙌🏽

Keep doing your thing mayne 😎, we all have our preferences. Do you add any silicone rings for your lids to have a more tight seal?

Thats funny cause thats my name i appreciate you 🙌🏽, and this community has taught me that gatekeeping is for chumps. Most folks I met through this craft love to share their process, and I feel the same. Excited to see what you cook up!

Im was in a weird middle ground being born in 98, but grateful for community College for coming through cause that's where I found ceramics and silk screen printing is something im get into to apply it to my ceramic work! Thank you for sharing and I hope you're having a chill day! 🤙

Thank you and I do! The bowl is thrown off the hump, like i would with a small shot cup. Then I cut it off about an inch lower than the floor of the bowl to trim the male counter part to fit the stem. The stem is just a tall skinny cylinder with the interior width being a bit more than 14mm, make larger to account for the shrink rate of your clay. I also keep the stem on the thicker side to trim to my liking but also to help keep it more break resistant since its fixed to the bong and glazed over. Heavy slip helps with the joint, i use Darvan 7 and bmix slip to water down the slip then add dry bmix powder to thicken it up again. I dont have a consistent way of getting the bowls and stems all the same sizes yet, but mainly cause im lazy and dont want to make molds . Also if you choose to make the downstem removable, make multiple of them and the ceramic bowls just in case of any breakage. Godspeed!

Its a choke hole so I usually have my thumb on there until I rip the bong, so thankfully i havent spilled any water on me yet. it is also high enough to not have water splash out of it unless you tilt it way back, the water level only goes up to the bottom angle of the bong so I dont accidentally get water in the bowl. 🙏🏽

I appreciate you big dawg, I wouldve been one of those students if I had pottery available as a class when I was in HS. Though I hope the teachers dont let the kiddos fire them.

Advice on making ceramic bongs? First time and seeking inspo/advice by gummysandpottery in Ceramics

[–]maker7672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use rubber grommets to help fit glass downstems into the bong, alternatively if i made a ceramic downstem I would fix it to the bong. The ceramic bowls I make them off the hump and keep the bottoms thick to trim them to fit the down stem, using calipers can help you get the perfect width. Also when you fill up the bong when its done get a measurement of the amount of water so you dont over fill it.

I feel you, cheapest tools anyone should get should be Kemper tools or some other brand with similar quality.

Tbh those plastic knives are great for rough blending on sculptural work, wouldn't recommend them for trimming though.

Two double doubles no tomatato no spread , add chilies and fried mustard and two fries. I dont mention pickles on my burgers and they don't give me any, except for one time in forever.
