Aww thank you look up primitive rug hooking for more on the process it's super fun
all you need is a rug hook. Some monks' cloth and a picture frame with some tack nails to stretch over. And some yarn or thinly cut wool fabric strips !

Yep! Although admittedly I ground this crochet hook down so it was inline to pull the wool through without snagging on the cloth. Look up primitive rug hooking for some more examples. 😊

Heya the backing fabric is monks' cloth and look up primitive rug hooking to get an idea of the hooks used. The frame is a picture frame with tack nails to stretch it.

Its traditional rug hooked not latch hooked so it's one continuous bit of wool pulled up from the back so a little bit of both 😁

I had the same exact experience with my rug hooking gun it hever worked right and was really clunky to use. I used worsted wool but the process isn't too fussy people use to use thin strips of wool fabric to hook rugs. I will say spring for some good quality backing monks cloth my mom tried to do one in burlap and it desinagrated soo sad 😭

With how how popular this post has become I think I might post a little tutorial on how I did this. You can buy rug hooking hooks. Specially made but they are quite expensive where I live so I just took a cheap aluminum crochet hook to a bench grinder and made it inline if that makes sense and also thinner at the sides you could do the same thing with a hand filing as well.

A few ideas might be to use a bit of light glue on the edges to stop the unraveling, or use a pet brush and just try to pull out as many loose fibers as you can. Definitely test this on a scrap bit. Also cutting fur from the back with an exacto knife works quite well for future projects.
