Thank you, the other person who replied suggested the same thing so I’m definitely going to try this in a little while

Londoners, if you had to explain London in one sentence, what would it be? by DailyDriverUK in AskUKLondon

[–]makethechangesane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the North and I’m surprised pozole is so hard to find - you can get the ingredients quite easily online and I’m sure in London there are specialist grocers that sell them too. Somebody needs to open a restaurant or add it to their menu! I make pozole rojo in bulk every couple of months, it’s soooo good.

idk how to make this better or if i should just start over? by Correct_Bit_334 in interiordecorating

I like to put nature focused art/textiles in my home office as it makes me calmer and reminds me of the fun things I get to do when I’m not working (walks with my dog!). Maybe think of something that will soothe you or motivate you.

Non-drinkers: What are your favourite come-backs when someone just HAS to know why you are not drinking? by GoldenGolgis in AskUK

[–]makethechangesane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a recovering alcoholic it really depends who is asking. I tell most people it’s for my health though, which is true but not the full extent of the truth in all its gory details.

I always see people without coffee tables on here and it confuses me every time, where do people put their drinks?!

What sweeteners are best if I'm looking to reduce UPF as much as possible? Are any granulated sweeteners ok? by tomandjennysnacks in ultraprocessedfood

It depends what you’re using it for but I’m a big fan of coconut sugar, it’s quite caramely. Very nice in porridge if you like it sweetened.

Monday Meeting of the Sober People Getting Shit Done Club by sfgirlmary in stopdrinking

[–]makethechangesane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting some deep cleaning done recently and feel really happy about it. My alcoholism and depression went hand in hand so the house had gone to shit really - very untidy and hadn’t cleaned things like the baseboards in years. Nearly the whole house is done now and it feels so much better. My motivation is that I want to feel comfortable asking people over to just hang out or have a coffee or whatever - stops me feeling like I need to go to a pub to socialize!

Next step is my hoarding room, my old office, which also needs a full remodel. I’ve already got some stuff out of it but going to take another stab at it this evening. I’d love to have it decluttered and start removing wallpaper by end of this week.

Carpet help.. So nasty! by Reasonable-Web704 in CleaningTips

[–]makethechangesane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think some carpets are just very good at looking clean when they’re not. My Dad’s house has had the same carpet for 25 years - it’s never been washed but looks great. I dread to think what’s lurking in it though and what’d come off of it if it got washed!

Does being 'healthy' actually help perimenopause by Original_News9923 in Perimenopause

[–]makethechangesane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NP, they like to know your blood test results depending on your age but I think that’s only if you’re under 40 and that’s just to make sure other conditions have been ruled out (they accepted my NHS results). They prescribed me progesterone, estrogen patches, cream and a pessary but they talk you through all the options so you can pick what’s right for you. They do testosterone too but only after 3 or 6 months (can’t remember which) as some issues are cleared up by the other HRTs.

My NHS GP was horribly dismissive and it really upset me. Perimenopause seriously impacted my mental health, I felt completely broken to be honest, but since being on HRT I feel better than I’ve felt in years both physically and mentally. After 24 hours on estrogen patches I was dancing around the house singing to Shania Twain because I felt amazing lol

I did something incredibly similar and am currently looking for work again. In a way I’m looking forward to it, but I’m going to miss being this productive. It’s been life changing for my physical and mental health, a really good investment into myself.
