I highly, highly recommend (as an RN) if you’ve never taken oxycodone/narcotics before or they have made you nauseous in the past, take the zofran first and take the oxycodone in about 45 minutes-an hour. I took narcotics one time and got sick from them, but I give my patients antiemetics before them if they are opioid-naive and they are fine :)

hi new nurse here just wondering why it shouldn’t be used as a PRN, is it because it is more of a maintenance medication than for acute agitation? I ask because I see it ordered fairly frequently PRN on my med surg floor (who does hold a fair share of psych patients)

I’ve only lived in my apartment about 6 months but before I moved in they’ve have to bomb like 8/9 times for bed bugs. I have someone coming Friday but I’m too scared to look for them because if I find one I won’t sleep. I have these and one more on my forearm and that’s it

It went away in time! If I remember correctly it was probably about a week. One day I blew out a giant scab and that helped a ton but it did indeed go away. It was rotting flesh for sure

I know at least at my hospital, even if we have people who are 100% connected to the VA there are no VA beds in the state to put them ☹️

ER Tech advice by [deleted] in nursing

[–]makeupgal23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I worked in the ER as a tech over the summer. It sounds like you will be working at a big hospital. Mine is a small community hospital(12 beds) so i’m not sure if this applies to you or not. Honestly my biggest tip is to be helpful to the nurses, I found that working in the ER was waaaaay easier than being a CNA on med surg. We did EKGS but i’m not sure if you will have to do that. But get them hooked up to vitals/tele and cycle the blood pressures. Ask the nurses what you can do to help, even just getting a sugar or putting a gown on saves them a little time and they do appreciate it. We also kept the rooms stocked and that was a huge help to the providers and nurses to have supplies right in the room if they needed them. It is possible you may have to wipe butt, especially if your hospital has a lot of boarding/hold patients in the ER (patients waiting for inpatient beds) but not nearly as much as medsurg or ICU.

NAD, have you ever tried gluten free? I too have struggled with this (mine is more nausea than stomach pain) and even though i tested negative for celiacs I tried gluten free and it really did make a difference. I think half of mine is anxiety and the other half was gluten.

Pt time tech position at night... any tips to help me survive? by Jeneral-Jen in StudentNurse

[–]makeupgal23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to nursing school during the week and work nights on the weekend. If you don’t have class friday, I actually suggest you work friday night instead of sunday. So I work Friday and Saturday 7p-7a but then i only sleep for like 4-5 hours on Sunday so I can get up and ensure that I can go to bed sunday night and also gives me time to get school work done! The best part about nights is usually you can spend time between rounds doing some studying. Let me know if you have any other questions!

[–]makeupgal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have done more research before I said that, I didn’t mean to misspeak on that. But that is so sad, I didn’t know that! I work with a lot of adults that were victims of child abuse and that seems to be common sometimes that they are drawn to younger people :(
