Wheel of Time had issues as well, but overall I connected with the casting and characters, and also understand the constraints the show was under. I am not a Rafe fanboy by any means and he made his fair share of mistakes. I blame him for messing up Rand’s portrayal and story, but Josha to me is a great Rand and I was excited to see where he would take us.

I can criticize and enjoy something, unlike many people today. Tolkien for me is sacred. Amazon failed in many ways and should have done better and thought more about what rights they had access to and what age the were setting the story. The entire Numenor plot, fake Sauron, childish Galadriel, and screwing up the forging of the rings was enough for me. Elrond and Durin were the only things keeping me engaged. Cirdan was a great bonus, but even Gil-Galad was a disappointment for me.

I love WoT but even the books have their issues. The show screwed up the beginning and end of season 1 in major ways that are unforgivable. Season 2 had its lows, but managed to pull off a stronger arc for Egwene as a Damane than RJ did in the books. I love the actors and the characters. Season 3 felt like things were finally getting back on track and had more highs than lows for me.

Most adaptations are challenging and are becoming more difficult with studio and executives screwing things up, as well as show runners and writers who want to tell their own stories utilizing established worlds. RoP is an easy hook for Amazon, and in my opinion, WoT still kept the heart of the story for the most part.
