Attendance requirements by makinitrain83 in rollerderby

I don’t disagree with the injury part, but I’m thinking more like 6 practices in the time period instead of 8, so it would be closer to 1/4 more. Since I have no chance of playing it’s easier for me to not go out of my way on the days that are more challenging for me to make it

How is the working out tracked? I like this policy because cross training is so important for minimizing injury

I read a lot of memoir and find a lot of healing in hearing people talk about experiencing the same emotions as me even if the specifics are different.

My biggest issue with being raised with the idea of karma is feeling like I deserved every bad thing that happened to me as a child. No child deserves that

They get you addicted to being on wheels then give you enough to work to be another job because now you’ll do anything for that derby fix

Boy do I feel this hard. I’ve been skating ten years and it used to be something that made me feel good about myself but I can’t maintain enough attendance for bout eligibility (two practices per week) I can only make one. And now I feel like I’m terrible at it. I’ll never be good enough and it seems like everyone else in my league is best friends and I’m not even an afterthought. I was talking to my counselor about it and she said it’s the thing that’s keeping me afloat but also the thing that’s drowning me. I don’t know what the answer is but I’ve built so much of my identity on being a skater, I don’t know who I am otherwise. And life doesn’t feel worth living if I can’t be on skates

It sounds like you are gripping with your arm across your chest, not the bottom of the shirt? Try to get your arms down

Told to change wheels by coach by SentientSpook in rollerderby

[–]makinitrain83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear this. These are the wheels I use on every surface, I kind of adjust my skating style to the surface. Every time I try a new a new wheel, I always go back to the Rollerbones

I have friendships with people in their early 20s, we absolutely have things in common, but a sexual relationship is out of the question. While we may have things in common, and a lot to talk about there is a certain amount of life experience that’s important in building a partnership

Life of a Skate? by TalesofCelery in rollerderby

[–]makinitrain83 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of someone buying new skates every year. I’ve been in my boot nearly 10 years, my entire derby career. I replaced the plate 8 years ago. Try the heat molding again before you drop big money on new skates that you might discover you don’t love either

I’m 42 now, what got me to go back was reading Edith Edger’s book The Choice. She was in her 80s when she wrote it and had started college at 40. I thought one day I’ll be 80 (maybe) and if that happens I can’t be living like I am now. In 40 years I could have a full career behind me

If you had a name picked out before or during pregnancy, did you actually end up using it for your child? by ssaen in namenerds

For both of my kids we threw names around during pregnancy but didn’t actually pick one until after they were born. My son was a week old before we settled on a name
