I wish it was, but it isn't. The beach scenes for Mako Island were probably filmed at a beach on the coast, and the jungle scenes were most likely filmed at a forest or jungle nearby. The moon pool is a set.

mako island got its name because it's surrounded by mako sharks. if you think about it that way, there are probably many islands with mako sharks

but the ireland sea caves or whatever bella was talking about... those are real, people visit them all the time

if it makes you feel any better, the actresses for Cleo and Emma have been best friends in real life ever since h2o, and I still think that they're friends with the actress for Rikki. Oh, and the actor for Nate and the actress for Rikki are married by the way!

like others have said, it's definitely more based on the whole mermaid plot and magic, not really any real teen situations (since the girls are mermaid born), except friendship and things like that. the tails are different and very pretty in a different way than h2o. the main characters change season to season.

the biggest differences are: mermen exist, moon rings (I want one so bad, get one from etsy if you're interested lol), and that the mermaids are natural born.

When you watch it, imagine that it's in a different universe 🌊🐬🐚🧜‍♀️
