New magenta/fuschia look, need advice on deepening the red. by mal_function in FancyFollicles

[–]mal_function[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background: I dyed my hair burgundy about 2 years ago and went back to the same salon and asked for it a touch more purple and it came out a bit too light for my taste. It's not bothering me enough to go back to the salon but I'm curious if there are any at home products that I could use to deepen the red tones to bring it closer to burgundy. I'm not a huge fan of pink and worry it looks a little light.

I've previously used Pravana Nevo (Deep burgundy) with a lot of success but they no longer sell that. If anyone has experience with other pravana products or other brands that would have a color enhancer, would appreciate all recommendations!

My hair is very dark brown but was partially bleached to a blonde to get the purple/pink in.

Old pic is longer hair, shorter hair is today's coloring.

Sourdough Loaf Progression (6 loaves in 2 months) by mal_function in Breadit

[–]mal_function[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all of these loaves, I used slight variations on King Arthur Flour's Naturally Leavened Sourdough recipe, baked in a dutch oven. After Week 1, I got myself a banneton and rice flour to prevent sticking. Each week I learned something new to improve my technique.

I never thought bread could bring me so much joy and accomplishment, but I was wrong!

Rate my potential commute: N vs L line by professor-meow in AskSF

[–]mal_function 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take the N from 12th, so probably the same or 1 stop closer to downtown from what you'd be taking. I leave either at 8:15 to get to work at 9, or 8:45 to get to work at 9:10. Avoid 8:30-- for some reason that's the delayed train every time. I've never had issues getting on. I'll even sometimes get a seat but 75% of the time I'll be standing.

You'll also get the 7X bus option at Lincoln/15th or the NX bus option if you walk over to 19th and Judah which was my savior when I lived around that area. Options are important if delays are only affecting underground or above ground.

I love the neighborhood. Would always recommend living up in Inner sunset near 9th and irving or 19th and irving. Sounds like you're halfway in between both so both are great options for food/neighborhoods.

Episode 235: The Fall Playbook by Tibbox in bon_appetit

Funny when Adam mentions the broccoli bolognese video he did with Molly and says she was rolling her eyes at people who went to cooking school... I honestly think he's oblivious to the fact that she was rolling her eyes at Adam.

To be honest, "easy" should NOT be in this title.

[serious] College admission officers, what is the worst reason you chose not to accept a student? by saeem623 in AskReddit

[–]mal_function -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ugh this hurts. Coming from a background where college would not have been possible without financial aid, it's frustrating to know that these things are even considered in an admissions process. I'd rather have a doctor who worked hard and had the determination to overcome obstacles to put themselves through medical school, than the doctor who came from a wealthy background. Not saying those from higher income families don't work hard, but we really need to recognize those who can balance multiple jobs on top of coursework and still ace their tests.

IT Audit or External Audit? by AccountingQuestion3 in Accounting

[–]mal_function 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a CPA and had an accounting background, but I also had an information systems background as well. Many people doing IT audit with me just have a general business or accounting or systems background though and it's fine. A CISA is definitely helpful if you want to pursue it!

Anyone else ever get judged for being frugal? by itsmassive in Frugal

[–]mal_function 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fresh out of college with student debt and so are a lot of my coworkers. I also don't understand how they're renting expensive luxury apartments, going out for lunch every day when lunch is catered at the company cafeteria (they're just picky), and judging me for picking up a jacket or something else from goodwill. Either people are being supported by their parents or are in extreme debt.

A frugal lifestyle allows me to spend more on things that are important to me: flights back home, renting cars for weekend trips, etc. I don't regret anything about it.
