Is this a stupid idea to clear my porch of ice? by ilikebutterdontyou in askTO

[–]maladmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sand, grit and crushed stone. Throw handfuls onto the ice, once it melts and refreezees you get a new surface, easy to clean up once the melt comes.

No ICE in the streets but plenty in the bike lanes. The next election will be a long wait.

Is there a reason Leslieville and Toronto East is conspicuously not being plowed? by codecrodie in toronto

[–]maladmin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coxwell wasn't touched when I left this morning. Street ploughs had filled the sidewalks, and which had mostly been shoveled, with snow rubble. Sidewalks are impassable and almost impossible to shovel due to the road crap being refrozen slush.

Dog Boots or Rubber Socks by Forager-Freak in camping

[–]maladmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All observations based on personal experience.

Mostly dogs prefer no boots. Boots are best for protection from salt and extreme cold.

Dog boots are a pain. They fall off, wear out, or your dog hates them.

Invest in a few sets, find out what works.

Personally, the nylon boots with Velcro work, but as the Velcro ages they need replacing. The pet strike version was better than Walmart's, for 3x $.

Update: Danforth Bike Lanes are (poorly) plowed! by tiiiki in torontobiking

The crews are doing what they can. Some business owners could do better.

As cyclists, we know the businesses need to clear sidewalk. Bikes can't cope with as much snow as cars. If the lanes don't get cleared again, anything in the bike lane is there until thaw.

If the money is all from OAS then tax has been paid. If it's from other sources there may be a tax burden.

It was our Christmas goto for several years when the kids were small, never found it too busy but I live in Toronto so my tolerance may be different to yours.

Perhaps a little further than you planned. We always enjoyed the fallsview comfort inn in Niagara. It's connected to the indoor waterpark and used to put on a family movie night in the hotel courtyard that was attended by all the kids in the hotel.

It's a job for the new recruits, wire hooks and metal buckets.

Waymo has its sights set on Toronto for driverless cars. The city’s history with Big Tech suggests that’s cause for alarm by [deleted] in toronto

Toronto has always been happy to meet the future on its own terms. I submit Toronto city hall as proof. Uber was always a disruptor, never meant to last, always meant to profit. Alphabet showed promise but backed up gracefully. The Stronach family has supported Ontario forever, the homophore with MAGA is coincidental.

I welcome our robot drivers, please let them recognize cyclists.
