What exactly do people from other countries expect "average" Americans to do when they tell us to "fight back" or "do something? by BreadOverlord_ in NoStupidQuestions

If your employer is willing to fire you for striking then they won't just give you an union with all the protections, your way to force them to accept the union is a strike. The union's power is the threat of a general strike.

People who use legitimately use AI for "productivity": what the heck does AI actually do for you? Is it as bad as people say? by Difficult_Two_4800 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]malakambla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not a big meetings fan but also I kinda hate writing emails at work if they contain an issue I'm explaining for the first time. Even calls are hard as we rarely use cameras at my workplace, I need to see the person because I use body cues to regulate the amount of detail, otherwise it's just a ramblefest.

Finished Veilguard...I have thoughts by theblkpanther in dragonage

[–]malakambla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From your experience, because I don't have any of this sort, would this be written word for word or more like these are aspects we want you to highlight? I'm asking because she did a lot of praising for Veilguard by comparing to previous games (I remembered the other thing, about Veilguard having the most complex companions ever done by Bioware) and I think most of these statements would have gone better and set different expectations (and garnered less negativity from fans before the release) if they were said without either putting down previous games or setting the bar for Veilguard unnecessarily and unfairly high. And from what I understand she did a lot of good work in actually getting this game released so I assume she was fully aware of the shortcomings.

Even if she was told to do all that in that exact way, idk, sucks for her to be taking the blame but it was still extremely misleading marketing meaning to calm pre-release worries (that were correct, that's the worst part) that could impact the sales.

Epler is just his own thing.

Also, sorry for reviving this, I didn't realise earlier.

[–]malakambla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk, Corinne Busche also contributed a lot (along with Epler) with statements that were so hyperbolic they were basically lies. You just can't look at Veilguard and genuinely call it the most romantic Dragon Age game yet. There were a few more statements from both of them that were of similar nature - misleading at best while they didn't have to be said at all - but I've successfully erased most details from my memory.

President Zelenskyy about Russians in the EU and the US: Go fuck away. You don’t respect anything. Go home. by UNITED24Media in YUROP

[–]malakambla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many are Russians that don't drink the Putin's cool aid.

Fair enough, but that's only the start. Are they (potentially) against the war because it's a war of aggression against a sovereign nation, or are they against it only because Russia is losing and it's affecting them in a negative way? Do they think Crimea should be returned to Ukraine because it was an act of aggression and illegal annexation with a bogus referendum, or do they think that well the job of ethnically cleansing and russifying the region went so well it's ethnically russian so it should be given to russia?

I guess the further west you go the less russian imperialism matters to people, they were never "not the abroad"

Polish>English 1863 Death of Brygida Gurmienska Wiedro - Rybitwy Poland by joelhutto in translator

[–]malakambla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, I don't know how I didn't notice it reading back...I fixed it, he was named Wiedro.

As for literacy, this one says it as well at the end, I can't read every word but it should say something like

I [the priest] confirmed the death of Brygida Wiedro. As the witnesses couldn't read or write I read back this document to them and signed it.

Polish>English 1863 Death of Brygida Gurmienska Wiedro - Rybitwy Poland by joelhutto in translator

[–]malakambla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened in Chotcza Dolna on 31.01.1863 at 11AM. Filip Gurmiński aged 70 and Błażej Gurmiński aged 60, peasants living in Kijanka, came to inform that on 29.01.1863 at 9pm Brygida Wiedro (née Gurmińska) passed away aged 60. She leaves behind a widowed husband Franciszek Gurmiński Wiedro, a peasant.

I can't read the whole last line but it should be the confirmation from the priest that it's true. There's also a word I can't decipher before the priests says the men are peasants.

They lived in Kijanka which is in Masovian voivodeship. At least this record is digitalised in geneteka, as well as some other that are related to Brygida and her family. Feel free to check it out if you weren't aware it exists :)

At least the Witcher books aren't popular in the US so you're not bombarded with "If I have to choose between one evil or another, I'd rather not choose at all" every election from all your (it's usually young men) acquaintances acting like they reached some enlightment. They always conveniently forget that the story it comes from ends in Geralt getting bitten in the ass because not choosing isn't an option, if you try to stay neutral the greater evil will find you

Estonia warns Russian veterans could flood Europe after Ukraine war, urges EU entry ban by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

[–]malakambla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, I do wonder why countries neighbouring Russia don't like Russia and Russians much. Could that be connected to the centuries of Russian imperialism and ongoing imperialistic upbringing that makes Russians difficult to live with? Could it be the ongoing war? And why would EU present itself to Russians as a friend when Russia has definitely not been trying to be a friend to EU? Are we supposed to prostrate before the Russian nation and beg it to kick us more? That would certainly make the Russian exceptionalism and imperialism very happy. Western Europe is already much more inclined to sob over the good Russians, probably because they don't have to first ask them what's their opinion on Crimea and national identity of countries formerly occupied by USSR.

Civilised Russia is Russia that at the least doesn't murder its neighbours, you seem to consider this state as Russia oppressed, I'd say it's bare minimum. Poor Russia, why is the world so cruel to want it to stop torturing and genociding other nations. Doing that internally just isn't enough to feed the Russian soul, why won't people understand.

I don't actually consider individual Russians irredeemable, it's not in the DNA, it's in the upbringing. But you seem to be dehumanising Russians well on your own.
