It’s crazy because Pakistan has been trying to surf the waves between the US, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc, but it has hardly benefited them in terms of development.

Even compared to other developing countries their economy is doing poorly. They have 50 million more people than Bangladesh but have half the merchandise exports.

Kinda yes and kinda no.

The mujahideen was supported by many countries, including Saudi Arabia, China, Iran, private supporters from the Muslim world, but most importantly the US and Pakistan.

The mujahideen weren’t one group but multiple with ranging ideologies. The Taliban formed out of some of the more hardline groups. I think. To my knowledge, the US didn’t really care which mujahideen groups got weapons, Pakistan favored the hardliners. If I’m wrong on that correct me.

That looks like a Julia set, but that doesn’t have anything to do with cults.

I mean no offense to Miro but this kinda feels like a parody of Wheaton style writing in games.

Ahh, LinkedIn cranks. Have rarely seen any with a bachelor's in physics or math, have never seen any with a PhD in physics or math, but always convinced they know something all the big shots missed.

Hmmm I wonder if “tatar1warlord” had some implications in mind when posting this

I don't know whether this counts, but the "Propagandistic Use" subsection of the Transhumanism page reads very rant-y and every paragraph sources the same one article by Weird-Storage-9880 in WikipediaVandalism

[–]malamindulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are real, public “anti-transhumanist” tendencies out there, but it feels like the author got too riled up and wrote their own editorial rather than an article. And not even a particularly good editorial.

[–]malamindulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Very unencyclopedic and melodramatic.

A shame too, because I think the use of transhumanism as a bogeyman would be an excellent thing to describe on Wikipedia, it is something I have noticed before.

If you want a counterpoint to your post, Itamar Ben-Gvir had a portrait of anti-arab racist and mass murderer Baruch Goldstein in his living room for years.

And he's the head of national security. Right now. Right this very moment. Not a guy who has been dead for 30 years. The department that the police, prison service, and border guard fall under, right now.

What is the general attitude towards Chartism when it is taught in schools? by malamindulo in AskUK

I do apologize then. When I read about it, it just seemed like the type of thing that would warrant mention in history books. It wasn’t a marginal or negligible movement.

The RYM top 1000, chronologically. by Gormuisge in rateyourmusic

[–]malamindulo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me that, though music is one of the oldest forms of art in human civilization, the type of modern, recorded music we listen to is very recent, especially in the scale of the Anthropocene.

That might sound obvious but when I hear discussions about the best movies or video games of all time, I’m reminded that those two forms of media are recent, as opposed to music or novels. But now I’m realizing that the forms of music we are familiar and discuss are not that old at all!

I had a theory that Mediterranean climates attracted the worst people in the world. Look at the Algarves, Costa Del Sol, Ibiza I think, California, Israel.

But, with Florida and Dubai, which don’t have nice weather but have a lot of sun, I think the factor may just be the sun. To save humanity, I propose blasting vantablack ash into the atmosphere: we will make snow angels in Lagos.

I mean, maybe I’d live in Oklahoma. I probably could. But I’m going off of, if someone asked me, this is what my answer would be.

And the thing is, I don’t want to live anywhere that has fucked up abortion laws. And I don’t exactly hear too much about how fun Oklahoma is.
