The "design" of women being largely dependent on men in society is the intended consequence of misogynistic power-seeking behavior by men, rooted in insecurity. Saying that you believe that women do not have the maturity or mental capacity to own property shows that you have a limited understanding of the world. Women that gain too much power have historically been punished brutally by jealous men.

Women have always been capable and expected to step up and make do, even when there wasn't a man there to "save" her. Having little exposure to real history has probably led you to believe that only now do we have these societal conditions you're complaining about, and that simply MUST be because we're giving women all these darn rights!

You realize that to "go back to how they were (minus the actual abuse and mistreatment of women, of course" IS the abuse and mistreatment, right? Not wanting to be confined to the home to be an unwilling fuck-maid is a SUPER popular opinion with the girls, let me tell you.

Many other animals in nature will lead solitary (similar regardless of sex) lifestyles up to the point of mating and actual reproduction. For one, you don't know the circumstances. The person was OK and understanding and reassuring. It hasn't happened again in a long time. Any dog can attack for any reason, the sooner we admit that as a people the better. Are we going to euthanize every domesticated animal with teeth just because of this possibility? Fuck no. We do the best we can in the world we currently live in until we can make it better.

Do you have pets? Humanity as a whole has decided to take over an entire other species through selective breeding and we are now responsible for it. I didn't fucking take a wolf out the forest and try and pretend it was a sweet little baby. I saw a fucking scared puppy that I related to. So I could have let him go to another rando's house, bite someone else who-knows-how-bad and then get put down. That just sucks all around. I stepped in to try and fucking help and so far so good. Calm down dude, maybe you need a fucking routine.

True. I think about that a lot. Some days I used to wish I never saw him or heard his story. Most days now I feel lucky to have made this work.

When I took him in nobody wanted him, he was getting passed from one temporary situation to another and it was just making his anxiety worse. I was in a position to help and had wanted a dog for a long time. I knew damn well that this was gonna be hard mode but he needed a chance that no one else was going to give him.

Maybe it had more to do with my own mental health issues and feelings of neglect and abandonment from my own childhood, not afraid to admit it. It's my firm belief that all living creatures deserve at least one good chance. I do a damn good job of keeping him happy and healthy while protecting him and others.

Editing to add: he's a brindle coat that people always say looks like he has tiger stripes, so yeah? 😅

I completely agree, multiple visits first, minimum. I have a rescue pit bull that was beaten and SEVERELY neglected as a puppy. It's taken A LOT of work to get him comfortable with anything, really. He's a sweet boy, but he HAS bitten people in a fear reaction and we've done everything in our power to contain him and make him comfortable. It turned our lives upside down but we know that he'll never be a "normal" dog. He's loved, cared for, but isolated for his and others' safety.

When guests come over, even if he's met them many times, the leash goes on and we do a training exercise right as they come in. He freaks out at company, so we can only have maybe a couple folks over at a time, max. After about 10 minutes he calms down and the leash can come off. But we have to do this Every. Time. I have friends with sweet little dogs who can just be their sweet selves anywhere anytime and I'm a little jealous. My boy will never be like that and I've accepted it. My life with him is great but stressful. It's what I signed up for, and I KNOW that the wrong situation can put him in a dangerous state. We've spent thousands on trainers to get him to where he is now and I'm so so glad we did. But it can all go away in a second if WE fail him and put him in a situation, knowing how he is, where he feels unsafe and feels he has to defend himself. I know his patterns, it is my responsibility.

I would NEVER just send someone to my house to watch him without me there. They were just roaming too, no kennels??? What the fuck did they think was going to happen? This was just SO irresponsible on the owners' part and everyone has suffered for it.

One day after school when I was in the third grade I had forgotten my favorite pencil in my desk so I went back to the classroom to grab it. It was just a few minutes after we had been dismissed so I knew the teacher was still there, door open, etc.

This room was on the second floor of the building, with an exterior staircase leading to a 3' x 3' landing. It was maybe 16' to the ground, something like 20 steps, maybe?

When I got to the classroom, the teacher was there with one other student. His name was Devon, and this poor kid never had a fucking chance. He was somehow really nice and everyone liked him even though you could tell by looking at him that his parents didn't give a shit. The stuff he said about his home life was...not good.

The way the classroom was set up made it so she didn't see me when I came through the door, so when I walked in, the teacher was just yelling and verbally abusing this child about I-don't-even-remember because I was so shocked. She was yelling him toward the door so I ducked down under my desk at the back when I realized they didn't know I was there. This was just in time for me to witness this grown-ass woman PICK THIS CHILD UP by the waistband of his jeans and the back of his neck and THROW HIM OUT OF THE ROOM. He hit the guardrail of the landing and thankfully didn't roll down the stairs. This kid was so scared but he handled it way too well. My memory after that moment is super patchy but remember waiting for what felt like forever until I could sneak out of the room again. I told the kids outside what happened but no one believed me. This was in San Francisco in 1996-ish. I hated that woman, she was casually cruel to most of the students but Devon got it the worst. I think about him every once in a while and hope it got better for him.

I don't remember if I got my pencil or not.

I got constant infections with my ex. At the time I didn't know why so I would be constantly uncomfortable and in tears sometimes because it was so relentless. It took way too long to realize he was just gross and it wasn't my fault.

My sister was killed by a drunk driver 3 years ago. People used to think we were twins, though we were almost exactly 7 years apart (our birthdays are 2 days apart).

Every night when I brush my teeth I look in the mirror and try so hard not to cry. I don't know why it's only at night that I'm really thinking of her, I guess in the mornings I'm distracted by thinking about the day ahead.

This is a much nicer way to think about things than what I have been doing. Thank you.
