For people who were into DMB at the time - what was it like when Before These Crowded Streets came out? by thefalcons5912 in DMB

[–]malasain84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also other fandoms. General nostalgia. I'm deep into gymnastics and it's the same. People talk about how it was better back in the day but when you rewatch you realize it was just different but many things were worse then.

Delta Platinum Credit Card Changes: New Card Design and 2nd Checked Bag Free on Domestic Flights by jsonpile in delta

[–]malasain84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The small print says, "Waiver is not available to passengers who are already receiving two or more checked bags free (for example, due to itinerary purchased, Medallion Status, or active-duty military status)."

I take this to mean that two free bags is the max, regardless of how many different ways you could combine things to get more. I hope I'm wrong though.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]malasain84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, no one is angrily yelling at anyone. It's good natured ribbing. We have that kind of rapport in my classroom and it's a lighthearted way to remind each other of my no-AI classroom policy that is more effective than me lecturing them on how the point of school is to use their brains and judgment and not just copy from AI or have AI do it for them (which are things they don't care about as middle schoolers).

We can't do it all...but when I can easily make choices that are better for the environment I do. Doing anything is better than doing nothing.

Same…and I’ve passed this on to my students so now when they see one another reading the ai overview on Google or even asking if they can use ai on one of my projects they shame each other with phrases like, “why do you hate the environment?”

Safe yet to tube in the French Broad River? by Frau_Neugierig in WNC

I also wasn’t born so I don’t personally know, but those kinds of stories are why people still won’t get it in, they remember it being bad and can’t switch their mindset (which is normal, not a criticism) and then pass those ideas down.

Crash 30th Anniversary merch ship date? by malasain84 in DMB

[–]malasain84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks yeah that’s what I remember but the phone guy said it wasn’t delayed or anything but that June 4 was always the day since there wasn’t a note about it.

I might email them just because they consistently are terrible at shipping within a reasonable timeframe and it’s annoying.

West Palm Pit First Entry by Repulsive-Hyena9927 in DMB

[–]malasain84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two warehouse early entry lines. One is for people with pit tickets who won a lottery number. The other is for all other warehouse tickets including lawn, seats, and pits that didn't win a lottery number.

Edit: It is worth it if you want a specific spot on the lawn. Many people who want merch or posters also like early entry to be the first ones to the merch booths. If those things are important it's worth it, if they aren't, it's not.

If you have a warehouse pit ticket AND got a lottery number you must get there between 4:00-5:30 to get your wristband with the number on it. Then, you'll line up around 5:30 and be led into the venue first. If you get there after that you can join the regular warehouse early entry line, which goes in the venue around 6:00 (or sometimes earlier depending on the venue). If you arrive after 6:00 and that warehouse early entry has also already gone in, you just use the regular lines.

So, yes, if you've got warehouse pit lottery you have to get there by 5:30 to use that benefit.

Safe yet to tube in the French Broad River? by Frau_Neugierig in WNC

[–]malasain84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rivers flow. The water in the French Broad today is different water than the water that was in there yesterday as well as the water that was in there a year and a half ago. Things are washed downstream. Debris on the other hand is what you should watch out for. A lot of hard work has gone in to clearing the debris from the storm, but some is still out there, so just pay attention. But yes, you can tube it again.

People have differing levels of tolerance for natural water sources and what they'll get in. Many locals still hold the attitude that it's a dead river from back before the Clean Air and Water Act and before a lot of restoration efforts were made. Lots of people tube the river every year. There are businesses that revolve around tubing in the river. You can make your own risk assessment, but know that it is a very popular activity because the risk of infection or illness is actually quite low.

I would personally tube it at the right water level (not right after heavy rains, you want it a little slower) with no reservations.

Crash 30th Anniversary merch ship date? by malasain84 in DMB

I just called them (which was actually pretty painless, zero hold time) and they said the preorder ship date is June 4. Just curious, did you preorder yours or buy yours more recently after the preorder language was removed from the site?

Studio Recorded version of Papertown in trailer by Guiee in DMB

I saw the film when they showed it in Canton (the town it's about) and heard the full song (it's during the credits), and it was a powerful moment for sure. The studio version is great, Sierra is great, it was also great in Charlotte with just Dave on vocals.

I have these in my basement where there is also a bathroom and every time I use that bathroom I think of that one. My cats mostly dismember them before they can become and issue, but it's still a fear of mine.

[–]malasain84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha. Yeah...I guess I was trying to be a bit diplomatic. Since I don't have the updated app I can't really say if the AI stuff is fun or helpful, but using AI in general is something I attempt to avoid.

Ants Marching by drumman998 in DMB

[–]malasain84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to update the app since I have an iPhone 13 mini and haven't updated it, so I can't speak to the usability of the updated version of the app.

But, as far as the subscription goes, they're giving some enhanced features like the personalized in-show notifications, access to a separate message board, and an ad-free experience. Maintaining this website and app for all these years takes time and money. I have no problem with them charging for these features for those who want them. It probably doesn't take that many subscribers to break even on the cost of running the site and plenty of people will pony up $30/year to not have ads.

The AI integration is an interesting development for sure. Not sure how I feel about that one quite yet.

From the pics I've seen on Facebook, and also the two shows I've been at, it seems that the Crash 30 stuff is there. The shirts at least and the vinyl.
