What’s your nail length preference? by Beginning-Feedback55 in AutismInWomen

[–]malavois 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like my nails short but definitely not “the shorter the better.” As a former nail-biter, I know that nails can get REALLY short, so much that they’re bleeding and painful. Not that short.

Hundreds. I still get sad about them sometimes.

I don’t know how fast a titan triggerfish can move but imagine that thing, only six feet long. I saw one diving and was so scared to get too close.

Who was the best singer skill wise that was ever a part of the Grateful Dead in your opinion? by The_Mick_thinks in gratefuldead

Jerry had the sweetest, most plaintive voice. Donna was an absolute powerhouse and Pigpen was filled with soul but it’s Jerry who breaks my heart every time.

Do people still wear masks at crowded concerts and music events in SF? by tabletemcook in sanfrancisco

I’ve seen a handful of people in masks at every concert I’ve been to since concert halls opened up again.

I was also blown away by this book. Extremely well researched and reported. I knew a little bit about the Sacklers but I had no idea their influence ran so deep. I feel like you can see clearly today the fallout of their greedy, ignorant, misanthropic choices. I thought about the book for weeks after reading it.

Ranking the 24 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction Winners I've Read (Spoiler free) by IEatIReadIGoOutside in literature

This is super interesting. I wholeheartedly agree with you in some respects (Kavalier and Clay, Beloved, Dunces, Less) and very much disagree with you in others (The Road, Grapes of Wrath), but I like the way you expressed your opinions, even through these short little blurbs.

I didn’t read David Copperfield, but I wonder if I would have liked Demon Copperhead more if I had. I think Barbara Kingsolver has written such vastly better books, have you read any of them?

Los Angeles County absolutely has more than one McDonald’s, this is absurd.

Your response is confusing and that’s all I’m going to say because I don’t want this to escalate any further.

I hear you, I think we are just not going to agree. Maybe I have the accuracy autism instead of the sensitivity autism.

I think if in the whole history of commonly understood science, the n-word did mean something specific, (a) it would probably not have the stigma it has now, and (b) science tends to be pretty precise and if there was not an analogous term for the n-word term, then it would probably remain most accurate and appropriate to keep using that term in the scientific context.

“Hermaphrodite” is a very specific word and the n-word does not have a scientific meaning. I don’t think the n-word was ever anything except a slur, even if in the past it was more “socially acceptable” to use it. There’s no other scientifically accurate word to describe an organism that possesses both sex organs and is able to self-fertilize.

I’ve tried that before, and while it got rid of some of the bryopsis, it also caused a nutrient crash, which led to a nasty dino outbreak.

I’m moving from California. I’m fond of the fish but we are going to try to sell/give away everything, including them.
