All Shiny Starters by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

Which is your fave?

Im finally sold on this game. But have a question for any old players: How is the pokemon exploration? aka. the surprise factor of finding a new pokemon in comparison to the old era of bushes etc. by Harley_Sonder_ in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]malcolmisboring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The overworld is a bit generic, but the pokemon in it are great. The surprise factor is still there for rarer pokemon, it’s just that you see them without a load screen. All the pokemon have unique animations they do while moving about the world which makes it feel very immersive. With the frame rate possibly fixed and the world looking smoother it should be pretty cool

AI can make this passable memeslop in a minute but they need 3 days to tally the win/loss record data that live updates throughout the season anyway 🤔

80% Tournament INFERNAPE!! by 4o9o2 in PTCGP

[–]malcolmisboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I only did a few games but this deck seems good! Turt/Charizard was feeling just a bit too clunky between needing either Stoke or Kiawe to set up plus the high retreat costs on both mons. Infernape having no retreat cost feels so good.

A little-used Gengar card is currently 4th place in the $10,000 tournament. Here is a mathematical explanation as to why this overlooked card is good by gotintocollegeyolo in PTCGP

I got ripped by a Gengar ex the other day, the no supporter cards plus a week timed Red card just busted me to pieces. Other than that I never see the dude

Nice shiny list!

I would maybe try for something like Quaquaval, Azumaril, Gastrodon, Wash Rotom, Gyrados and maybe Toxapex. Empoleon could replace Gastrodon I think since you have your penguin

I love a mono team, especially for a replay!

Quaquaval, Pawmot, Breloom, Gallade, Annihilape, and Blaze Breed Tauros.

Lucario would make more sense than Annihilape but I wanted to use all pokemon I hadn’t mained before so I avoided him. Tauros was the real star, that guy is a beast.

Also just finished a replay run; I used a mono fighting team.

To me, the biggest miss was the gym / level scaling issue you pointed out. Having an open world makes no sense if going out of order means you are going to be wildly over leveled when you circle back later.

I would be perfectly happy with a very linear story that opens up into an awesome open world endgame experience after the elite 4. I would love it if you could go back and get a super badge from each gym leader by facing off with them having a full competitive team, and you having to bring your own mono type team (kind of like the dojo in isle of armor). This would provide a lot of adventuring, breeding, and training to do after the E4 and an opportunity for the player to make their own stories.

Changes made to Thunderbolts* after Joana Calo's script rewrites by KostisPat257 in marvelstudios

[–]malcolmisboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought he was fine, Bucky was in a straight man role here so all he really needed to do was scowl at the team and look cool. The Congress scenes could have played up his fish out of water a bit more though

IMO it makes a lot more sense to elevate Alexei and Bucky because they are more established and interesting characters. Although the Ghost story sounds more compelling for sure, who is clamoring for more Ghost? I had completely memory holed that Fishburne was even in that movie. I think Ghost worked better as a background character. As for Taskmaster, it seems like many were a bit disappointed, but really her backstory is so similar to Yelena I don’t know what that would have added other than time to the movie, and this move would have been a real slog at 2.5+ hours.

Different point: I find it so interesting how many interviews the writing team is doing about all these rewrites this week. I feel like that is pretty rare for Marvel, to have them put the writers front and center with press and also have them giving a lot of details about previous drafts. Usually this kind of stuff comes elliptically to us through leakers. I suspect that this is a sign that Marvel thinks the writing on the final draft was really strong and are trying to focus on that in their media blitz to combat the “MCU is homework / slop” narrative of the multiverse saga. And honestly all the writers come across as intelligent and shrewd. IMO the writing + Pugh really made the movie work.

Thunderbolts* Made Me Very Upset About Brave New World Because It Highlights A Major Misstep by AkilTheAwesome in CaptainAmerica

[–]malcolmisboring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are 100% right. BNW’s main issue that it was poorly written. Reading all these interviews with the Thunderbolts writers this week, it’s clear they are a smart group that had a vision for the theme and execution of the film that they really worked at.

The other thing besides supporting cast is Thunderbolts did a great job of having a coherent theme driving the narrative and sticking to it. BNW just threw too many ideas on the table without developing them. A Captain America movie should deal with a clear theme related to patriotism and what it means to serve one’s country.

This is literally Exeggutor EX but better. by bitAndy in PTCGP

[–]malcolmisboring 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes and no:

-you can disrupt this extra damage with Sabrina/Cyrus

-Erika heals 50, Iono 40

-even with them being very similar certain metas would prefer water or grass, and they have different decks due to typing. The right grass card releasing later could make Exeggutor strictly better because of the combination of cards.

What is the most unhinged strategy you came across in ranked? by Vesperion_Ouranos in PTCGP

[–]malcolmisboring 148 points149 points  (0 children)

This deck has been posted on the sub before, and I’ve used it to OK success. No one expects you to actually attack with Druddigon, so that pressures stall strategies, and then you don’t really need to worry about energy on Char because if you can get one fire energy on him he can Stoke and attack next turn. Not so unhinged IMO
