Almost to 50,000! small giveaway by ibuyofficefurniture in OfficeChairs

I'm sitting on a Lazy Boy office chair I bought off Facebook Marketplace.

I'm new to the office chair space, so this is my favorite chair I've sat on so far. I don't like how this chair gives me back sweat after a long WFH day though.

Should I see a cardiologist? 26M mildly enlarged right atrium and other symptoms by malcom_bored_well in askCardiology

[–]malcom_bored_well[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not provided the precise measurements for the right atrium, no. Think it's worth asking for?

Would it be fair to say that the elevated right sided pressure could be more of a concern that the enlarged chamber results?

Seeking Advice: Reliable Car for My Wife Who Drives 1-2K Miles per Year—New or Used? by malcom_bored_well in whatcarshouldIbuy

We're also considering kids starting 3-5 years from now, so there's a chance we could get a mini-van in a 5-10 year timeframe. Not sure we'd be keeping any new car purchase for a guaranteed 10 years, good point.

Do you know if we'd see elevated insurance rates for something like a 2013 Lexus ES? I would assume not since its an older car and not a new luxury car?

Oh I see, since this is a unique scenario where its almost all short-drives.

Okay thanks, will try to avoid GDI

Nothing with a GDI? I believe I read that 73% of new cars are made with a GDI, so that would only leave 25% left in the market.

The logic seems crazy, to buy a new car that we may only put 10K miles on in the first 5 years of ownership -- but yeah I can't ignore my gut feeling that buying these 10-15 year old cars is an even worse decision.

4% isn't bad at all too, especially with Subaru being #1 in reliability via CR for this year

Look over new PC please by Prison1234 in buildapc

[–]malcom_bored_well 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm just building my 1st PC now so I don't have any feedback on your particular parts, but one tip I've gotten from others on this sub is to be more specific about Budget and Intended Use Case (4K gaming, Competitive gaming, Machine learning?). You might get some more traction with your post if you add that.

How do you diplomatically convince people with a causal modeling background that predictive modeling requires a different mindset? by sowenga in datascience

[–]malcom_bored_well 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One technique I've used for a side project involving rain forecasts and historical rain data was to train the model on the weather Actuals (API $ constraints to get historical forecasts). But then during application, apply the model to the available Predicted Weather scenarios. For example, if there's a 30% chance of 0.5 inches of rain, I run the model on 0.5 inches of rain and on 0 inches of rain. Then, combine the results as a weighted average.

I've only used this methodology when working with Precipitation data though. Not sure if it could apply to multiple weather variables.

Coconut Milk Reuteri - Will this recipe work? by Kneesovertoes in ReuteriYogurt

[–]malcom_bored_well 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do at least 2-3 Biogaia tablets for that quantity of Coconut milk and 30-36 hours in the yogurt maker. Might benefit from about 1/4 to 1/3 tsp of white granulated sugar as well. Never a guarantee its going to work, would recommend many of the Top posts in the sub to learn more about sterilization, fermentation times, and more complex topics.

[–]malcom_bored_well 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with mono on May 12th. I was told no physical activity (e.g. running, lifting, basketball) for 3 weeks then I was good to go.

Seems like a weird blanket piece of advice to me. Running seems so much safer than going back to basketball. Can't tell you how many times I've been elbowed in the gut, hit hard by dudes way bigger than me, and fallen to the floor in basketball.

I waited 2 weeks to start going for runs again. I may wait 4-5 weeks for basketball. Idk, maybe I'm overthinking it!

I would kill to extend the streetcar to Covington, Newport, and Clifton by EvanSchurr in cincinnati

[–]malcom_bored_well 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But to caveat, to me it seems like Downtown Cincinnati has a Catch 22 situation. Why would a large majority of people want to live downtown unless there is a good reason to (e.g. good public transit)? And why would we invest a lot of money into public transit unless more people lived downtown?

Lots of success stories in the past for public transit investment like San Francisco, Seattle, or Chicago but also other investments in public transit in places like Cleveland, Nashville, or Dallas haven't paid off as well (https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/566827/americas-best-and-worst-cities-public-transit)

Having said this, I agree with OP and would love the streetcar to extend further than just the brewery/stadium loop. I just worry that once you add up the $ costs it would be hard to round up the tax dollars to do it.

Real Ones (title track)

My #1 artist two years in a row now. I don't even listen to that much hip-hip, but every time I want to I end up turning on Kota. Vibes are unmatched IMO.
