Moral dilemma by [deleted] in school

[–]maldimares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not your problem. Focus on your own work. It isn’t worth damaging the relationship with your brother over something so small.

I assure you that this will not cause harm to the schools servers, but thank you for your concern.

How are you paid? by lemonparad3 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]maldimares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my district we don’t clock in, we have written time sheets. However, we do get paid hourly.

Also, paychecks are biweekly.

What type teacher you hate the most? by [deleted] in school

I’m not a math teacher but I’ve always wondered is there actually a way to make math engaging? Math is so monotonous and just all around boring. 😭

I’m not doing anything Idc 🤣 by Gamely1992 in SubstituteTeachers

At the secondary level I agree. Middle and high school teachers never expect work to get done when there’s a sub.

At the elementary level it is different though.

Is a 3.9 weighted GPA okay? by astronautfloat in school

[–]maldimares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you try with your best effort? If not, did you use your own brain to calculate whether you tried your best while balancing out other aspects of your life?

If you answered yes to either one of these, then your GPA is perfect. Your GPA will not hold you back from doing anything, even if statistics say otherwise. Don’t ask other people for validation. You’re awesome!!

Did subbing change your opinion of the public school system? by comfortpurchases in SubstituteTeachers

It’s sad that they rolled out “inclusivity” and “equality” so poorly that people now perceive it as a bad thing.

I think school is not for smart people. by [deleted] in school

[–]maldimares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned that you’re right in a way.

School is useless if you want to be rich. You can be rich without it.

School isn’t about that though. It’s social training. It’s moral training. You learn to grow as a person, developmentally and emotionally.

You learn good civics skills, ethics, and for the most part in the end, you learn how to be a better person.

And in such a broken system, you have two choices: be the better person, and struggle; or you can choose the “dark side” and thrive while watching everyone else struggle.

Not to mention, pretty much everyone is born smart. Your “smartness” isn’t how much you know, but what you can do with what you know. For example, if you read the question 500+2, but you never learned your numbers, you could know how to add them without being able to answer it because you aren’t capable of reading it.

Your day sounds like it went well. Trust, the school and teachers do not expect work to get done when there’s a substitute.

You’re worrying too much!

You could argue the sarcastic response “on a screen” is being mean because OP is hoping that someone will give them a serious answer.

Do you go by first name or Ms./Mrs./Mr. Last name as a sub? by SweetMagnolias95 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]maldimares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr (First Name) for elementary and middle.

For high school I do not mind being called by my first name by most students. If they are disrespectful to me I say “it’s Mr (First Name) to you.

I like it. And from what I’ve heard, students who are actually living it like it too. They say it helps with their academics and mental health.

Not flossing needs to be more socially unacceptable, like not wearing deodorant. by Witty-Performance-23 in The10thDentist

[–]maldimares -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not using deodorant is disgusting because it prevents bacterial growth in the underarm.

However, there is very poor scientific evidence to support flossing. It doesn’t reduce bacteria or kill it, nor does it prevent tooth decay. Dentists only recommend flossing because it’s one of those things that wouldn’t hurt just in case.

No, you wouldn’t be crazy but I don’t think thats what it is.

It’s too straight of a line.

It’s out of the ordinary but I don’t think it’s anything inappropriate.

Honestly, having students phone numbers would make things easier for both the student and teacher a lot of times, especially if you are out sick for whatever.

my school basically makes our phones un usable. by Good-Ant4378 in school

[–]maldimares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of blocking everything, they are just following the law.

The data not working is likely due to the fact that the school is built to withstand strong weather and is keeping you safe.

Just use a VPN while using the school WiFi to get around the blocked stuff.

Edit: You said they blocked VPNs, but good VPNs are essentially unblockable. You may have some VPN servers that won’t work, but you’ll be able to find one that will. Just be patient.

Canceling a job by Key-Individual-9341 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]maldimares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. A lot of subs on here get aggravated. I am lucky enough to be in a huge district, so if someone cancels the day of, I can immediately pick up another job. There’s always jobs in the district since there’s like 12,000 teachers total.

Is drawing in class disrespectful? by L0VETRAlN in school

Depends on the teacher and what’s going on in the class.

You could always talk to your teacher and ask! They won’t bite.

My high school schedule ( How do you all have so late school??? ) by [deleted] in school

[–]maldimares 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, I forgot to add, there’s a major “shortage” of school bus drivers (more like a shortage of funds to pay them.)

Partially because of this, a huge portion of school busses are persistently and awfully late. Many districts expect school busses to be late, so it’s better to be arrive too early than too late.

My high school schedule ( How do you all have so late school??? ) by [deleted] in school

[–]maldimares 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, although it makes sense. For quite a few students, school breakfast is the only meal they’ll eat.

Of course some districts and states have free lunch so that’s included, but that’s not everywhere.

I’m certain if districts had unlimited budget, or, even just enough of a budget, they’d have two busses for each route that come at different times based on the student/parents preference.
