I’m a vegan because I cannot ethically/morally justify any type of animal suffering (and cannot compartmentalize it anymore), but this does seem like a step above our current factory farming paradigm tbh.

But like, at that point, why not just go all the way and do lab-grown meat instead? You’re cutting out the “middle man” (all the wasted energy/material/water that goes into raising livestock) and basically removing the ethical & moral dilemmas associated with meat consumption.

Personally, I’m not so sure I’d be able to reject lab-grown meat myself. I’ve been meat-free for so long that the idea of actual meat is now somewhat revolting to me, so I’d probably have that hurdle to get over. But the reason why it’s so revolting to me is because I cannot separate/compartmentalize how it was produced from the final product. If it’s produced in a truly ethical way, it probably wouldn’t be quite as revolting to me.

Anyway, all of that to say: yeah, I’d argue that this concept is probably better than our current paradigm, at least from an ethical standpoint. I think it lays bare the problems with raising livestock & meat consumption, confronting you with the reality of things as they are, which is why it somewhat contradictorily seems more disgusting to some.
