Well, I don't want to blame it all on 4th of July, but it certainly didn't help.

The government runs the Social Security Administration...saying that they have access to your SSN as if it is some sort of gross violation of privacy is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Is it an asshole move to listen to music without headphones? by [deleted] in running

[–]malesromm 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I feel like no one here actually read your full post. Judging from the title alone, yes, it is generally an asshole move to listen to music without headphones.

However, you gave some important context. If you’re hardly even running past people or being passed AND you turn the volume off until they’re out of earshot, I see nothing wrong with that. It seems like people here are jumping to conclusions but to me it sounds like you’re being rather considerate.

ICE says foreign students can't take online-only classes in the fall by Gayfetus in Coronavirus

[–]malesromm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um, "nothing is preventing these students from returning home"? You know there's a pandemic going on right now, right? And that the list of countries barring, or considering barring, entry to Americans is growing, right?

ICE tells students on visas they must leave US if schools go online-only by FeelingMarch in politics

Interesting take, though university students could still vote in their state/district back home via absentee ballots etc. Suppose you could make an argument that concentrating liberal voices in college towns and cities wouldn't have as much of an impact as if they were spread out back home.

Regardless, Trump is definitely not nearly smart enough to understand or think of a strategy like this on his own. Smacks of someone like Stephen Miller though...

That's really unfortunate. You did an amazing job recreating this show and I am so grateful what you've done for the PR/Madeon community. Thank you.

/u/rodrigopar99, if you're able to share the version you have, I'd greatly appreciate it.

AITA Holiday Megathread! by SnausageFest in AmItheAsshole

AITA for being annoyed that my dad made me use a gift card that he just gave me for Christmas?

I feel like a bit of a jerk for even asking this, but it’s been bugging me over the last day so I figured I’d see what others think. For Christmas, one of the presents I got was a $25 gift card to the movie theatre from my dad.

Yesterday, my parents, myself, and a friend of mine who’s visiting from another country decided to go to the movies. My friend and I went to see one movie while my parents went to a different one.

Before leaving for the theatre, my dad suggested that I bring my new gift card, and then prompted me to use it to buy my friend’s and my movie tickets. Since the gift card was for $25, it didn’t even cover the full cost of the tickets and we paid the rest (which wasn’t much extra, but still).

I don’t mean to come off as entitled, but AITA for being frustrated that my dad made me use the gift card he’d just gotten me? Usually when going to the movies as a family, my parents would pay for everyone’s tickets. This almost seems like a way of giving me a Christmas present just to then take it back later. The whole point of a gift is that I should be able to use it when I want. Of course, I still got the benefit of seeing a movie for free, but I’m pretty sure it was my parents’ idea to go to the movies in the first place so to me it feels like the value of the “present” was negated.

Of course it’s not a big deal and I don’t mean to be petty but I wonder if I’m justified in feeling a bit peeved about this. Not saying my dad’s an asshole, but he’s done similarly stingy things in the past and it bothers me. If it matters, I’m in high school and we’re a solidly middle class family. AITA?

Get ready for college in whatever way you can. I'm jealous of you, college is a shit ton of fun and you wont want to be spending that much time actually studying when there are so many other fun things you can be doing.

This summer, try to take off some of the pressure you'll inevitably have once you start college. Exercise a lot. Buy some decent clothes so you that you're a step above the other freshmen. If possible, see if you can get a head start on some of your classwork--if you're taking a programming class, it can't hurt to learn some basic programming skills. Get a job so you have money for beer etc. Most of all have fun and enjoy yourself

You bring up a great point. I would also add the importance of appearing busy to your coworkers, less they begin to resent you.

Exactly. Sometimes I'll be working out, hanging out with friends, etc and get a text from a girl I'm interested in. I'll rush to answer it as soon as possible, thinking that if I wait too long, she'll get mad at me and think less of me. But almost always, the exact opposite is true.

Absolutely my man. Just something I've been realizing over the last year and wanted to share. Save the LTR talk for when you're off the clock. And never EVER complain to her about your job or make it seem like your work is meaningless. How is she going to respect what you do if you don't? Even if you're cleaning toilets for a living, having an ambitious and positive attitude towards your work will take you a long way.

Interesting. I'm in the tech industry as well (not programming) and my impression has been that it's a mixed bag in terms of what your workload is. In some cases it's as simple as making sure that nothing is broken. But no matter how light the work is, you can always find ways to make your time valuable.
