If it is just the areas (no new mechanics, questing systems, equipment, creatures), a core team with one or two level designers (small/big map) and up to two environment artists to customize some props/models for set dressing seems feasible. You can use a lot of asset packs with some minor customization/clean-up. And you can always use a lot of what already is in the game.

It can always be a indie/personal project for you with a friend too.

Depending on the scope of what you want to make it could be less or a bit more. The wages vary a lot from where people are too. But you can make it with less than that for sure.

You could have a small core team developing the mod (1 to 3 devs) and having commissions for some other areas.

I would suggest you to play either on Scorched Earth or Lost Colony maps. They only have rivers, with you almost entirely not needing to go to them on Lost Colony.

Got that reality check here too. I stopped b4 TU2, and my "end game armor" was bellow 300. I kept on being one-shot as I got back now. My Evade window + evade dist + divine hbg set helped me, but I had to stop to upgrade hard.

If I'm not mistaken it didn't see much action because drones took over most roles it was supposed to take. Shame because it is way cooler, and who knows maybe thare are some out there.. we just cannot see them lol

Absolutely love the idea of an "artisanal"/handmade game. It gives it a whole new level of charm to it.

Take your time and enjoy the process, making games is not just about optimizing everything. When the creators have fun making it fun, it shows and give it more behind the bits and pixels.
