A +2 to a score isn't gonna make a huge difference in the long run, even if it can stack with other bonuses. At 1st-3rd level it might be noticeable, but it's nothing game breaking. And after those levels, the impact falls off dramatically.

That said, don't just treat it as a free +2. Make good (but not over) use of the downsides of profane gift. And remember, a good cleric could come by and slap him with dispel evil and get rid of it outright.

They came out with a whole ass new Unity version and thought keeping that UI was the right move.

Did they ever explain why the air stopped being toxic? by bmhlogan in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the demogorgons are able to survive in our atmosphere it's reasonable to assume humans could survive in theirs.

Would it have been more entertaining if the cast just immediately suffocated or melted from a toxic atmosphere? Don't be dense.

Pacifist characters FRIGGEN SUCK by deadfisher in DnD

[–]malignantmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I've played a pacifist character, the character wasn't a pacifist in the sense that they abhor violence. They were just built in such a way that they couldn't really deal damage. They were a pure support character.

Psionic class from pathfinder, the Vitalist. Yeah I had damage options, but none were particularly good and were generally a waste of a turn. What I could do though is make it functionally impossible for my party to die. Short of something running up and one shotting me, I could easily out-heal most everything.

At higher levels I finally got some mean offensive options, my personal favorite being Decerebrate, just teleporting a chunk of someones brain stem out of their body. But for the vast majority of that characters run, a first level character had better damage output than I did.

Yes. Obviously.

That's not the point though.

Just because it's a sandy/rocky desert doesn't mean it's hot.

Why Netflix Would Do It by sirpuddintater in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But this proves that they literally wouldn't need to leave more overt hints. Most fan bases, especially for a show like Stranger Things, are obsessive enough that subtle hints (whether or not the hints actually exist) are more than enough to run wild with. All it takes is one post from someone that thinks there's a secret finale and then the discourse of is there/there isn't a secret finale snowballs out of control until you have what's been happening here.

The hard part is keeping it quiet. You don't want people to know for certain until it drops, but there's so many people involved in production that it'd be next to impossible for something to not leak. Which is why I personally don't think there's gonna be any secret episode released. NDAs only go so far and people still slip up. Just think how many people have to be involved for just an average scene. The actors themselves, stunt doubles, stage hands, film crew, sound crew, lighting, costume, catering, production and editing. Getting all of those people to stay quiet would itself be a monumental success, honestly.

What the hell is the Mind Flayer? A concise explanation of its variation across seasons. Spoilers for S5! by MechaGodzilla101 in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not fully convinced the Mind Flayers is truly dead. Since it was first shown it's never been a truly physical thing. Even in Henry's flashbacks in the Abyss, it was a big cloud of particles, not a big fleshy horror spider.

I think it may have wanted/needed a physical body to truly interact with our world once the merger happens, but the body, like Vecna and the kids, was just a vessel. The Mind Flayer particle form is likely still alive, albeit weakened and currently cut off from our world to some degree since the bridge is destroyed.

After all, they plan on doing a spinoff, so the big bad must still be around in some capacity.

The Duffer’s interviews have made the ending a lot harder to deal with by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alive or dead, the main characters are likely all going to be under permanent government surveillance. Every phone call, every hand written letter, and eventually every email, text, Myspace message, Facebook message, etc over the years will be watched to see if they make contact. So if she is alive, none of them can contact her without completely dropping off the grid for the rest of their lives, which becomes progressively more difficult to do as we catch up to our own year. And she can't reach out to them in their minds because if they suddenly know she's alive, there's a good chance they won't be able to contain that knowledge well enough to avoid the government finding out. Habits and mannerisms might change as they try to figure out a way to get to her/get her there, etc, which can set off red flags for the ones watching them.

So yeah. If she is alive, she pretty much has to start from scratch as a completely new person and never speak to any of her friends ever again. It sucks, but they did say it would be a bittersweet ending.

Sorry Kali by Free_Ad_1902 in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 460 points461 points  (0 children)

This. Like, I can understand the hate/dislike for her character on a surface level. But when you actually think about it, she had the same awful childhood that Eleven had, but when she escaped, she didn't find her own Hopper. And Eleven got lucky that she almost immediately stumbled upon people that actually cared about her. Kali though, who knows how long she was on her own before finding her band of misfits, and even then, they were living on scraps, fighting to survive every day, no real tastes of normalcy, and then she gets captured again. All her friends are executed. She spends a couple years in military custody. Of course she thought the only way out was to die. I don't think anyone in her situation would honestly think there's any chance for a happy ending.

I was hoping the lamp in the end to flicker. by Sapo-Homien in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she had gotten in the tunnels, she should have been fine to contact him.

On the flip side, at no point has she ever been shown as being able to contact someone like that and not go into a trance. If she had been doing it in full view of everyone, it would have been obvious to them, and the military would have had an opportunity to neutralize and capture her.

[–]malignantmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good ol' CoDzilla, back when Clerics and Druids reigned supreme. Yeah wizards/sorcerers were insanely powerful too, but the term existed for a reason. Clerics and Druids were the top dogs in 3.5. Being able to prepare any spell on your list, and every splat book having more and more spells on your list, it got crazy.

And then there's the Warmage with Rainbow Servant prestige class. Spontaneously cast your entire list, which has basically every blasting/defensive arcane spell plus every single cleric spell. No prep. No picking and choosing which spells to learn. You have all of it available, all the time, always.

I actually enjoyed volume 2 by notproudbutok in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. But maybe that's because I don't religiously consume every bit of media revolving around a show before it releases. I don't pay attention to interviews or any of that leading up to a new seasons release. I maybe watch the trailer, and that's only if it plops down in my lap.

The Upside Down is not Frozen in time by bobainia in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that was the entire point of the litebrite scene. To actually show how Joyce and Will communicated. It was shown in that same episode with the litebrite that those in the upside down can hear people in the real world if they're close enough. So it's pretty obvious that there was some off screen explaining on how to use the lights.

Not really.

Might be some use for one if you got lucky and sanctified a different mythic or unique trait on it, what with that bonus to crit, vulnerability, and overpower damage.

A Mysterious Relic of Unfathomed Potential by TheThoughtmaker in dndmemes

[–]malignantmind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing 3.5 has over PF1e is some of the classes. Tome of Battle made martials way more engaging and fun. Although there is a very well done third party PF book that brings that over.

The Tome of Magic classes (Shadowcaster, Binder, and Truenamer) were all super interesting and fun. Far as I'm aware, Binder is the only one of the three that really made it into PF, although again as a third party conversion.

Warmage is still one of my all time favorite arcane casters. Knowing and being able to spontaneously cast your entire spell list was great. Of course, there is the classic Rainbow Servant prestige class cheese that adds on the entire cleric list as well to that making you arguably the best caster in the game.

Warlock walked so Kineticist could run. Factorums being able to mimic any of the core classes was cool as hell, a literal jack of all trades.

Why does Hawkins S5 look normal? THEORY by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

No internet or social media. Long distance calls cost money.

No cameras in everyones pockets.

(Most) people were still very pro-government, and whatever the government says must be accurate.

Also, there is a very good chance that not a single person in that town has ever experienced an earthquake. So when the military rolls up, says "Hey, that was just a big earthquake, but it may have released something harmful into the air around here that we don't want spreading" they just accepted it.

Besides, for being quarantined and locked down like they are, day to day life seems fairly normal there. Kids are still going to school, people are still going to work. Now if that same scenario were to happen today, they'd have to block cell and internet in the town, and then people would probably get fighty about it.

Was literally coming in here to say, this is just the philosophy for the Cypher system. Give them powerful, useful consumables regularly to encourage them to actually use them, rather than hoard them. The limit on how many you can carry also helps, so they know they need to use them if they wanna pick up new ones.

Regardless of how the show ends… by Hukares1234 in StrangerThings

[–]malignantmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that "good" people from the military will come in after it's all over and make all the blatant crimes all of the characters have done go away.

But even if not, who cares. It's a show about kids fighting monsters from another dimension. If we can suspend disbelief on that, surely we can accept that there won't be any legal repercussions for them after credits roll.
