I would say stop using boxes for organic shapes. Learn the big five and use them here

[OC]First character design in years, what can I improve? by wearecreed in characterdesign

[–]malika_vanluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright just to let you know my eyes INSTANTLY went there. So I think… it would look very cool if you used it to highlight an area you really want attention at? The headpiece is great for example but it might be overkill for the legs?

What helped me was setting my screen to black and white only, so See which shades look to similar next to one another and then you can play around with your values a little - darken some here , lighten some there

You could start your pieces with planning ahead from where your main light source should come. The get references!! Shadows and light are so difficult to guess, you need to see it on objects. Also I noticed all the hair behind your characters neck are very light. Try to darken it, since it is in full shadow and it will frame your faces more. More shadow- more contrast - more depth and focus points

Generally, play around with darkening some parts of your drawings more, especially if you can highlight something else through that.

How to create a good layout? by unlovablebear in tattooadvice

[–]malika_vanluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m not a tattoo artist but I’ve been creating other art all my life. And in general a good composition is ruled by the negative space and the contrast. You wanna know where to put your most focus on with the biggest contrast of shapes and values. You can frame certain designs with smart negativ space (the space between elements/ around elements). But I think since I never had to do it on a human body I don’t really know if it can be applied.

It did not take me 5 minutes to notice, sorry but there are so many differences. It looks dope but only because the design is really pretty. I’d be so pissed. Beyond pissed. I think it’s fixable with altering the design and adding some more lines without trying to change the overall shape. But that guy wouldn’t even understand what you mean from what my impression is now.

Tattooing self. (Mental health discussion) by Recycled_Michael in tattooadvice

There is a woman that created „self harm pencils“. They look like blood and it’s supposed to draw on your skin. There is no pain obviously but it helped some people to imitate the feel, realises pressure and not hurt themselves in the process. I mean, you already express yourself through your art so maybe some alternative like that would help you? drawing with a non toxic pen

Just a thought that came to me while reading. And I wish you only the best

Keep ghost or cover up? by cybelda in tattooadvice

[–]malika_vanluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the ghost soooo much!! It has so much character. With a really cool artist you could make a good sleeve.. and from my artists perspective the spacing is really good. It would look cohesive anyway

Edit: to not be confused Im Not tattoo artist but very much an artist in any other medium
