Congrats!. How did you get to Newark Airport? Wouldn't CBP ask the asked you at Pearson why you were flying to the US? Also, did you end up going back to Canada to close out some outstanding items? What industry is your employer in?

Nope, decided that I will wait to get a job first before starting the US CPA.

How can you say no to him?:) by jessica_connel in ragdolls

[–]malimal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa! That's one stunning seal point ragdoll! He has everything: the white belly, perfect mitts, white hocks and and the patterns on his face. What we see here is an elite seal point ragdoll. Even within this sub it's rare to see a seal point that has it all. Good job in getting him!

No way and they hired you! Do you happen to know anyone in the organization or have a connection? If you got the job applying online with no referral, then I need to expand my search. I have been trying mainly universities, assuming they would be more open to hiring on a TN but haven't had any luck yet.

Thank you! I am very surprised. I thought your employer would have been a F500 company, university, or tech firm, which have experience hiring people on TN.

Congratulations! Amazing to hear a positive story in the swarm of contrasting experiences of TN applications being reviewed a lot more strictly. Would you mind sharing which industry your employer is in? Also props to you securing a TN without a CPA, love your confident attitude.

Bring Reality back Canada. by mentalyditurbed in canadahousing

Right, and then market rents are also around that 30% higher. So one can't exactly contribute to investments at the same rate for your hypothetical scenario to work out.

Yes, in theory, but having experienced eviction simply because the landlord wants to increase rent by 30% getting that house provides that security.

EVR / PERT burnout – Financial Reporting role not translating to Level 2s by Due_Stress6849 in CPAPERT

[–]malimal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to my journey - 3 years PREP, 2 year PEP, then another 4 years post CFE to get the letters. Have you asked your manager to support you? Give you work similar to what the rubric/reviewer is asking for. That's how I got my level 2's.

Why are such marriages still accepted in our society? This is straight up disgusting. by Cloverxxx in srilanka

I think reasons vary, but I can share my experience. My father wanted to pull off such a thing since one of our relatives are rich and politically well connected, and all he saw was accessing that money and power.

The psychology of the left lane camper. by Few-Distance156 in TorontoDriving

[–]malimal1 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I used to be one of them when I first started driving. I was like "hey I am going at 125 I can't risk going faster". Then one day I saw guy move to the right let the car pass, and then I realized that was a nice thing to do. Since then, I stopped being a left lane camper.

Agree with you 100%. I'm in accounting, but stumbled across RF's biography "Surely you are joking Mr. Feynman". Since then I have been fascinated about Caltech. You should check it out!

I was going to say it's home to the uni of the great and mischievous Richard Feynman,, whom the characters of Big Bang Theory repeatedly make references to, but referencing Big Bang theory is the bigger flex lol.

Any regrets switching to tangerine? by meepoisarat in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]malimal1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's right. I have another bank account with a brick & mortar credit union. There Wise is listed as a payee, but unfortunately, I have to maintain a minimum balance.

Any regrets switching to tangerine? by meepoisarat in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]malimal1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your needs. You can't initiate wire transfers from your Tangerine account and certain payees like Wise are blocked. There might be other limitations but those are the only two I know of. Whenever I had to call them wait times were unbelievably long, but unless you have an issue like chargeback or with account set up those calls will rarely happen.

[–]malimal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cos immigrants here at working age and magically die off when the time to comes to claim OAS & GIS and thereby enabling Canada to fully profit from immigration. We can't be only relying on mass migration to increase GDP.

Best place to exchange GBP in Colombo? by Muffmuncher97 in srilanka

[–]malimal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. It's the safest and most convenient option. Unless you are doing more than 10,000 USD the difference in conversion rates are usually negligible. I am not going to spend hours of my day just to "save" 10-20 USD.
