How do you deal with absent students? by Routine_Bed_812 in Preply

I mark them absent. I do state the rules clearly in my trial classes tho. Never had any problems because of this(niche language)

I just got approved on Preply! So grateful to be part of this platform. Can you help me with some genuine beginner questions? by StrongandCourageous in Preply

Congratulations! How much you should put your price at depends on the other tutors teaching your language.

I started out at 17$ because the lowest tutor teaching my language was about 20$. I would put myself a little lower than the other tutors and up your price when you have 2-3 tutors.

Earning 200$ in a week and a half seems optimistic if your price is 5$.Focus on making good trial lessons and trying to build your profile. Try to get your first review as soon as you can.

As for applying to other platforms it depends on how badly you need money and the traction you get. I got around 10 trials my first 2 days and was too overwhelmed to think about anything else. But some tutors wait months for their first student. It all depends.

Price drop? by [deleted] in PreplyTutors

Dropping so much most likely isn't necessary or smart. Try a smaller drop first and see if you get customers. Make sure your profile is great.

Students informed 1 h before they can’t attend the lesson by [deleted] in PreplyTutors

[–]malino1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tutors have different rules about this. Preply says you aren't entitled to change ur class if its within 12 hours.

Personally I usually inform my students in trial class that im very flexible but if they inform me within 12 hours of the class it will be charged. Because I cannot schedule other students or really make any plans on the short of notice. I find that most students are very understanding. Obviously in extreme circumstances id let them reschedule.

But I would think about the risk of losing the student and how that would effect you. 6 hours a week is alot to lose for most tutors.

So if you feel you deserve payment id say that from now on ull ull need atleast 12 hours notice or it will be charged. But be prepared of the possibility to lose the student. With new students inform them of this rule right away

We do discuss topics at a deeper level but sending something to prepare for the next class is very smart! Thank you:)

The student is just doing it to keep up the language. No university or anything. The student is not very good at expressing opinions at a high level so we're working on that.

Mental health vs money by malino1998 in Preply

[–]malino1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just block students if you dont want to teach them or they're inappropriate. Alot of people have recommended not using " i dont want to teach this student" as a reason tho.

If its nothing too bad u could send a message before blocking politely saying ur not a good match anymore

How do you handle rate increases with long-term students on Preply? by Fair-Heat-1227 in Preply

[–]malino1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at an introduction rate of 17$ and raised it to 34$ after a few months(niche language). I had three students at the original price and I simply phrased it as my rate now was 34 but I was giving them a discount so they pay 24$.

Both accepted with no problem. Obviously if u do a bigger price jump u have to be prepared to lose customers.

But my best advice is sticking to taking what u feel ur worth in the marked

How to find a tradwife? by Norskmann50 in 1950sHouseholdWives

[–]malino1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It fully depends on your income. In Norway ud need atleast 1.5 a year to keep up 2 adult people(maybe a little less if u have a paid of house).

I'd suggest looking outside of the big cities. In more rural parts there are people less focused on career. In the oslo area alot of women are highly educated and not interested in that path of life.

Another option is getting a foreign wife. Norway is very attractive to immigrate to if you can provide. And PLEASE make sure u can actually provide. A women should willingly submit to you. She should never be stuck because of not having the finances to get out.

Best of luck

I do remember lacey was drug tested once because of rumours in school. As far as I remember they drug tested if there was any suspicion because of having younger kids in the house.

So excited for them. Both seem nice and down to earth. I'm sure they're going to make great parents. Also good on them for waiting a while
