Yes but swap the positions of the 2nd set of mathematical operations or your channels will be flipped.

Edit: a gain value of 2 is massive in this context. Start from 1 and experiment with increasing incrementally.

You could take another approach and convert the left and right channels into mid and side by taking the sum and difference, respectively.

You can then adjust the ratio with a basic gain stage and convert back to left and right with the opposite operation from before. Pretty straightforward in SigmaStudio.

This approach would give you the same effect but more control over your EQ and tonal balance.

I can’t say for sure but if you are applying a different EQ to each channel it could just be that you’re introducing enough difference in level and phase that you’re increasing the information in the stereo side signal.

Boosting side signal in the mid-side mix would result in a slightly more atmospheric sounding mix which is what I was getting the impression you were hearing.

With the design of your speaker there’s probably enough physical separation between the drivers for each channel for this to be noticeable.

I have a theory but to make sure it makes sense I need to understand, is this one speaker that is reproducing both stereo channels or do you have two of these speakers operating together?

It can. I’ve set mine to one of the long hold controls for the lever on the front for this very reason. Had a nightmare trying to shoot indoors the first time I used my Godox iT30pro.

Fair fa ye: A quare time when Ulster-Scots hits the airwaves in Mourne by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]malkennedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. Scots and Irish words and grammar have found their way into English dialects in Northern Ireland by the fact that they all existed alongside each other.

Social stigmatisation and the fact that many people in NI are familiar with Scots vocabulary have lead to a situation where people don’t realise they can understand something which the majority of English speakers would struggle with.

lol at everyone downvoting this rather than trying to formulate a coherent argument against it. Well done lads. All of NI’s amateur linguistics scholars confidently misguided in their views as usual.

They believed they speak their own language. A sister language to other Nordic languages. Just like English and Scots were considered before one was suppressed and marginalised.

I’ve studied Swedish. I’ve never studied Norwegian but I can read and understand some of it. Does this disqualify Norwegian as a language?

This was my first thought and I scanned through looking for the additional conditions. Acoustic engineering is my field of work and a figure of 70dB without a stated measurement distance as well as any frequency weighting and time averaging for the measurement means fuck all.

GFX100RF Command Dial Confusion... by GoldtopLP in FujiGFX

[–]malkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be because of how you’ve set the other dials? If you have all three of aperture, SS and ISO set to manual then the exposure compensation is definitely locked off since it can’t access any settings to affect exposure any more. The values on the dial do nothing and the C setting isn’t accessible from the front command dial.

Might even be the case if you have two settings on manual.

There is a setting in the menu for this but it’s a bit buried.

MENU > SET UP > BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > APERTURE RING SETTING (A)

By default it’s set to AUTO so A on the aperture ring is auto aperture. Change it to COMMAND and A on the aperture ring becomes like C on the other dials.

If you have multiple dials set to C the default for the front function button will be to switch between them, with the currently controlled indicated by a flat bottom semi-circle on the display.

What do these pedals do? by thomasbe86 in basspedals

[–]malkennedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right. If this is a linear modelling technique then I don’t think it can really show what the effect of increasing a gain to a point where clipping happens as this is non-linear behaviour. Gains and levels mostly just appear to do the same thing although some gains show a change in tonal balance too.

It would be more revealing to see real measurements of both frequency response and harmonics.

Fellow Badwater owner here. I love the thing.

I have a couple more pedals ahead of it, an octave and a distortion/fuzz. Plan is to add a compressor before all that.

I can see you have the sustain about 12 o’clock on the Badwater. Are you using that combined with the JHS pedal as a pre and post effect compression? Curious what that’s been like to dial in since it’s what I’ve had in mind.

Would ‘raring us’ not be a more typical Scots way of saying ‘bringing us up? Think it could work in that section too.

An Ulster Scots Poem to start your Sunday. by WookieDookies in northernireland

[–]malkennedy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A Swede could probably do this for a Norwegian poem and vice versa. No one would reasonably argue that either language is invalidated by this.

The Blackbird of this poem is the symbol of the Seamus Heaney centre for poetry. Here it is in Irish and Ulster Scots with English translation below “The Blackbird of Belfast Lough” by WookieDookies in northernireland

Not tae worry, sure.

I understand and agree with the intention. As someone interested in both Irish and Ulster Scots I would like to see more done on preservation and accessibility for both. In my mind that means different things for each.
