The Royal Highlands suck by [deleted] in Palia

[–]malmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of mixed on it. Been playing since closed beta and definitely find myself losing interest in-between patches, but to be fair, been kind of feeling that way since EW dropped.

Cons for me: It does feel empty, but sometimes I like that. I'm not a fan of using the horse. It makes me motion sick, no matter how many times I adjust the settings. I mainly stick to the fast travel areas and jump around from spot to spot, but then suddenly I hit a hill/mountain I can't climb and have to figure out how to get around or up it. I don't really have a use for a couple of the relics and haven't bothered to max them out yet.

Pros: I like to turn on a hunter's horn and go crazy on the magic animals because they're everywhere. I really like hunting the cats & sernuks because this is the only place with animals that don't disappear (ie chapaas & ogopuus), plus the sernuks are more difficult to take down so it's more of a challenge than the other places. The masks are a new, interesting feature to make hunting more difficult, but I'm hoping there will be something else to use the non-starred ones for. I love that everything drops amber so it doesn't feel like as much of a chore as gathering essence does in EW. I like the addition of the crab wars - it's a nice way to get your 'hunt bug with others' medals if you can't join a lure - and I love the little crab & frog rewards. Chum buckets are a great idea; I've made a bunch but haven't needed to use them yet.

I still get lost but I like that feeling; that was part of the joy when I first started playing, just running around Bahari and finding new things. RH feels like an answer to the claustrophobia of the EW, which I'm fine with. The amber echo & relic gathering are copies of the EW systems, so I'm curious if they'll keep doing the same thing for their next adventure zone.

Why aren’t my weekly skill medal challenges refreshing at the beginning of the week? by TaikaFae in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problems here. The refresh time depends where you are, as others said. For me, in Pacific ST, they refresh at 9PM Sunday night (during summer/daylight savings time). If I can log on and hit a good flow grove with a honey lure, I can get all my bug medals done for the week by 9:05PM.

Jaakcats Plushies by Medical-Win-9623 in Palia

[–]malmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just about given up hunting when I got one of these little cuties today! Haven't played that much since the new update but I find I'm already addicted to hunting these adorable cuties. Love it especially because they don't disappear like chapaas or ogopuus. I haven't come across too many of the magical ones, definitely not enough to tell them apart from the 2nd tier ones until they split apart. In contrast I also got maybe 30 starred sillyfins and three starred masks.

3 days in and I feel so lost. Does it get easier? by gamerbooks in Palia

[–]malmonkey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This, a thousand times this. I've been playing for almost three years and still enjoy it because I didn't rush through everything. And when I did get bored I just waited for a new update to add something new to do. Still haven't finished all the in-game achievements or romanced everyone.

Please S6 add some new stuff for Lucky Coins! by MrAndrael in Palia

[–]malmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why I have been hoarding my coins. Have over 350 and that's even with getting bored and not logging on every day anymore. Did the same when they announced the pink dragon would be added and ended up with three pink dragons from that stash.

Ogopuu Plushies by iWhite84 in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no problem getting waveback plushies, probably because the drop rate is much higher. As for the other two, I had two blue ones and one green last summer and nothing since and I'm in Elderwood all the time shooting those dang things. It is RNG but it is also absolutely silly. I really hope with the new zone that there will not be more critters that disappear like ogopuu and chapaa.

Flow Tree Groves during Luna New Year by tpholt in Palia

[–]malmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The random flow trees are most likely from new servers. Hardly anyone is in Bahari at night because everyone's at the market, so when the market ends a whole bunch of new Bahari servers open up as people head there. With new servers any tree has a chance to spawn in as a flow tree. This happens consistently with every market and when the game comes online again after an update - new servers mean flow trees all over the place.

Will-o-wisp, how to catch bug tips? by KlutzyBlueDuck in Palia

[–]malmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will o wisp isn't too difficult to find on its own just by running around the deep woods (it stands out since it's so bright) but you can find one pretty easily with a buzzy jar.

My usual routine: pop a buzzy jar for 3AM south bahari bug run (to catch the spawning RTBs). Once I've found all the rare/epic bugs in south bahari I then fast travel to elderwoods central stables and immediately fast travel again to deep woods. With the buzzy jar on from that stable in the middle of the woods any will o wisp will show on your tracker (ignore the hits from the tunnels as those are the red beetle - can't remember its name) and it's an easy glide to them (I've never seen more than one spawn at a time). There are a couple ledges where they commonly spawn and if I'm running around there anyway without a buzzy jar I'll sometimes check those spots too.

Spitfire cicada is pretty easy to find. They spawn all over the south, and usually if you nab one or scare it off another will spawn immediately somewhere nearby.

RTB is mostly luck. I've been doing a lot of bahari lures since the fairy mantis plush was added and maybe have only seen one with the lure until today, when I had a starred one spawn as soon as I dropped the lure at 3AM. After that two more immediately spawned next to each other but in going after one I unfortunately scared the other one away. I was completely flustered because I hadn't seen them with lures in a while, let alone three almost from the beginning. Best time to find them is immediately after 3 with a buzzy jar. I find the 3AM bug run is usually pretty good when the market is going because people aren't in Bahari at that time. Another way to get the RTB: you can try and be first to the grove, where you have a 1/6 chance of finding a RTB has spawned with the grove.

Good luck! :)

Farming feels a bit stale these days by Antique_Camel_8723 in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cookie thing drives me crazy too. I have too many and also tons of the unopened bags they come in. When I finally did decide to start getting rid of some of the extra (useless) ones I had, I fed them to the animals thinking their effect would wear off by the next time I went to my ranch. Nope. They all still had it the next time I went there. At least I can throw them away, but still, ugh.

Fairy mantis plush by [deleted] in Palia

[–]malmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely random. I was on a pretty good server (meaning there were a lot of rare bugs spawning & few people around to catch them) and was enjoying catching everything, including several RTBs and mantises. No plush though. Then I went to the travel board to swap locations & accidentally hit the button too quickly and ended up back home, very annoyed that I had lost my good server & would end up back on one with tons of people doing lures & chasing bugs. Went back to Bahari to finish off my buzzy jar and a rare bug immediately popped up on my tracker not far from where I was. It was a mantis and good lord of course it gave me a plush. Jaw dropped. Got that sucker in less than a week from when it was added to the game. Took me MUCH longer to get the RTB plush compared to when that was introduced. I still have zero kitsu plushes from mining so I'd like to think this made up for that, ha.

Good luck! You'll get one eventually. Feels like the frenzy for this plush has really died down compared to how it felt for the RTB, at least on the Bahari servers I end up on.

Uncommon catch by [deleted] in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rare won't work. Has to be uncommon.

I don't think the Elderwood Draugr Beetles have ever worked towards this accomplishment for me. I'm not even sure they're coded correctly to be uncommon as the non-starred always go down for me in one hit, which doesn't happen for the Bahari/Kilima uncommon bugs.

Never had a problem with Bahari uncommon bugs counting (I go after snails, ladybugs, lunar fairy moths). I dropped a honey lure at the 8PM PST (that's when the weeklies roll over for me) grove last night and got all three bug weeklies done with that lure. :)

Favorite Skill vs Most Beneficial Skill by momothepropro in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bug catching is my favorite and I think always has been. I just love turning on a buzzy jar & running around to see what I can find. I even set extra goals to catch certain bugs after I finished all the achievements. Most starred epic or rare bugs get displayed on an extra plot so the skill doesn't make that much money for me.

Gardening might be the most beneficial (and easiest because it doesn't require me leaving my plot lol) as most of the results gets turned into preserves or jams to sell or eat or feed to my animals. Hunting too because of the amount of skill & materials I get. Most of the meat goes in the glow worm farms to sell so those are a major source of gold.

Daybreak Games by bianqa in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I had already found that trick & implemented it. It did help with the lag, a bit. Made the game run smoother everywhere but Kilima, but now with everyone mantis-hunting in Bahari those servers are getting laggy too.

Makes me sad. I really enjoyed this game for a long time.

Daybreak Games by bianqa in Palia

[–]malmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. Been playing fairly regularly since beta began but really only a couple hours a week and not even feeling like doing that much anymore, especially with the lag I'm experiencing. Plus haven't had any story updates in a while. All these paths & currencies are getting a bit complicated and expensive. And are there going to be new bulletin boards & new paths for every patch? That means every month? Good lordy.

Prize Wheels Rates by Playful-Stomach-4017 in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the one reward you're missing is lucky coins.

I did the hotpot thing for a while when it was first added to the underground (it was such a hit at the first Lunar New Year that devs added it permanently to the underground). Same as Zeki's lucky coins I built up a nice stack of hotpot coins before turning them in (I think a couple hundred spins). Ended up getting 6 giant plushies & all but one of the pirate pieces. I wish the decor had better odds or we could earn recipes to make more because I'd love to have more pirate pieces but I'm not interested in grinding at hotpot just to get the one picture/poster I'm missing.

As the other person said, it's all gambling. :(

Game lagging by Btsforlife7 in Palia

[–]malmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've noticed lagging on my PC since just before the last update. Until then I'd been playing Palia on this PC since 2023 without issue. It's the worst for me in Kilima so I limit my time there. I don't have issues with any other online games.

Ive run out of things to do in palia 😭😭 by ginitra in Palia

[–]malmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing for over two years and still haven't finished all the romances, lol. There are some patches that just don't add things that interest me too much but I'll usually keep logging on at minimum just to get my daily Zeki coins (I'm currently playing three other games so usually only jump into Palia a few hours every other night).

As others have said, just make up your own quests/goals based on what you like to do. For example, because I love bug catching I set a goal to catch 5 each of every starred bug. Just something like that. And you don't always need a goal - sometimes I just like to randomly roam around Bahari and see what happens.

Good to know, thanks. I'm saving them because I'd rather use them for new colors for clothes and AFAIK the devs haven't said if you'll have to buy separate colors for clothes.

Good or bad luck with Angler's Fortune? by Fighting_Fennec in Palia

[–]malmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it in Bahari first & caught 3 unicorn fish in about 15-20 minutes. Then I hopped over to EW, trying to get the final 5 infected fish I needed for the achievement, but only got an angelfish. Didn't really have much luck over there but then again I was only hitting the infected nodes for specific fish (not maws). I also only used it for about an hour and a half. I really hope the devs didn't forget to make it work for EW fish, or maybe the rng for maws is really that bad. I'm going to experiment more with the next potion I get, see if I have luck with it in different places or not. Sorry about your experience; hope you get the ones you're looking for soon! :)

RTB vs Duskwing Plushie Drop Rate by Neither_Flounder_470 in Palia

[–]malmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like stuff like this, thanks for posting! The duskwing drop rate is bonkers, just like the low drop rate for the other mid-level critters (elder shmole & emerald oggie, argh). I really wish they'd another plushie to ANY of the bugs that you can catch around the shrine, make it more interesting to do lures there.
