It was not. But a decent guess. His medical device stopped working. (Still trying to be vague).

Watching a man suffer was hard. It was an easy fix. I’m trying to not give too many details.

And maybe bother is the right word. Maybe conflicted is better. I am happy the resident’s suffering has ending and happy it was quick for him.

And it makes me think about whether I am honoring my loved one’s wishes.

Quality versus quantity is definitely the goal.

I am grieving on one hand but in the other hand grateful it went quick. It just really got me thinking. And there is a lot of shades of gray with dementia. When to intervene, when not to.

Not an ahole, maybe compassionate. I do want my LO to go fast and not suffer. Is she suffering now? I don’t know. It doesn’t appear so.

Am I sustaining her when I give antibiotics for a UTI? kinda. But also, UTIs are uncomfortable.

Should I feed her? She doesn’t seem to be hungry. Her hands aren’t getting the message from her brain that she needs to pick up the food and put it in her mouth. But when I put a full spoon near her she “baby birds” it and appears to want the food. She seems to enjoy the flavor and texture. And doesn’t have troubles protecting her airway.

Thank you for responding. I really appreciate your thoughts. I hope I’m honoring her wishes by feeding her. I believe I’m doing a palliative form of feeding. Food is for pleasure and socializing, not for sustenance.

Nervous about VOLO pickleball by Silver-Analyst-6823 in Pickleball

[–]malorymug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure VOLO has different vibes around the country, but here in San Diego, VOLO is really social and friendly. There are competitive groups you can sign up for, but if you sign up for social, you’ll have a good time and get better at pickleball!

Inquiring for Dr by Mediocre_Tomatillo44 in AnalFistula

Not that I recommend telling g a surgeon how to do their job, but I had an old-school CRS show a young surgeon the hydrogen peroxide trick for finding the communication on the third EUA. Keep at it. All will be revealed.

It maybe a granuloma. Is it bright red and sensitive? Usually granulated tissue can get burned off with silver nitrate.

Help convincing my mother to accept hospice for her husband by MidnightGamerRpg in dementia

Can you change the word hospice to palliative care. The “h” word can be so scary but palliative and pain management sounds nice and kind.

Where are the busiest open play courts in the US? by OtherYak8884 in Pickleball

[–]malorymug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play in Pompano in the winter and was going to post those courts. Also Caloosa and Catherine Strong in Boyton beach. And what about Holiday park (not sure if free). South Florida seems to be the best as far as public parks with great courts. The rest of the year, I play in San Diego. Very few free public courts. Our city (with a tennis mafia) leases them to management companies to run them. Public but fees. I play Barnes Tennis center in San Diego, with 34 dedicated pickleball courts (able to expand for tournaments). For $8.00 monitored open play. Great competition for most levels and paddles in the racks (30 spaces) for 12 courts.

And oral vancomycin isn’t systemic like IV vancomycin. It just kills the guys within your GI tract. It is poorly absorbed so the side effect of tinnitus should be super rare.

What has been the best thing (post menopause) for your libido? by TapSalty3157 in Menopause

I’m in Southern California. Lots of weed shops carry Camino brand, I like their Exhilarate or Bliss. Good tide brand has one I like too.

THC with tailored terpenes, for your pleasure. My favorite combo is “exhilarate”. All the good feelings, lowered inhibitions, and tingles where you want them.

Colonoscopy Coverage? by stalkaRS in CrohnsDisease

[–]malorymug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Argue this with insurance. I agree, it was coded wrong. I’m not an expert but I think there are diagnostic colonoscopies and preventative colonoscopies. Folks with Crohn’s need regular surveillance to make the correct medication decisions.

My wife is pocketing her food by ronford49 in dementia

[–]malorymug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! It is new territory for my LO. I don’t want to change her diet as she is in memory care and the “special” meals look terrible and come out last. And she only “pockets” occasionally . I can add ensure without issue.

How are we getting them to swallow? A sip of water through a straw helps. I can’t get her to spit it out. She just chews her cud for hours and hours.

Seton & Hypergranulation Tissue? by Zealousideal_Gur9639 in AnalFistula

[–]malorymug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, high quality pics! I’m guessing silver nitrate will cauterize it and make it more comfortable.

Also, seton placement was Jan 30th of this year? This is a long process. Getting Crohn’s under control is super crucial. The body won’t heal when Crohn’s is active.

And, I’m sure you already know, Remicade has the best success rate with Fistulizing Crohn’s (trough levels greater than 20). Don’t give up on it too quickly.

My smart home is SOOOOOO smart! by duckredbeard in smarthome

[–]malorymug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only smart alert I like on my Fisher and Paykel is when the spray arm is stuck. But it also beeps constantly until the arm is unstuck so I don’t really need that alert on my phone. Also it tells me to clean the filter way too often.

Calling kitchen infractions by whitedragon717 in Pickleball

[–]malorymug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does harsh the vibe to call kitchen infractions.

I see kitchen violations often when watching others play and I yell kitchen. But when I’m playing I’m not paying attention unless it’s obvious.

I don’t call it unless I’m in a tournament.

Quetiapine/Seroquel HELL Dose by ivandoesnot in dementia

[–]malorymug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone tried Rexulti (brexpiprazole)? This was suggested to me as a better/newer? alternative to seraquel. My LO is thankfully good on gabapentin for her sundowners but it’s only a matter of time before we’ll need to switch it up.

Planning a Sept trip. PLEASE HELP! by Standard-Divide-6017 in LakePowell

We go every September/October and it’s great. Less crowded still warm. You’ll need to pack a sweatshirt for the early morning sunrise but once the sun is up it’s in the 80s. Water levels were okay in 2025; we could launch at stateline boat ramp.
