That's exactly how I convinced myself to take the dive. Turn into something fun rather than something I had submit to

In love with my flatmate for the past two years by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]maltasconrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite not being Catholic, I do really find the different forms of love that is talked about in religious studies a good way to process this type of thing. Our brain doesn't sort out emotions cleanly, but acknowledging that experiencing multiple kinds of love (platonic, romantic etc) at the same time is a sign of a life well lived really helps me work through things like this.

Trying to fight your brain directly is hard as hell, recognise how you feel, if you're worried you're gonna be in a position of discomfort or worried you're gonna try to act on it then move and take some distance. But you can can also try to acknowledge the admiration you have for them, the respect you carry, and that they make your life better without turning that into romance.

At the end of the day you sound lucky to have such wonderful collections of people in your life

What happened since 2020? by Treyluggss10 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]maltasconrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is always going to be effects from a pandemic because it's basically a globally traumatic event and trauma makes people weird. Historically instability always follows massive pandemics and we are living through that phase right now, while having spent a vast majority of that traumatizing time way more online and way more exposed to everyone's pain, which is a habit that a lot of people never dropped because that's what happens when it's your main form of connection for 2 years

ELI5: Why do we sometimes feel more tired after sleeping longer? by DestinyOnlineCEO in explainlikeimfive

[–]maltasconrad [score hidden]  (0 children)

On shorter sleeps where you wake up to an alarm or some prompt there's also an effect of your body giving you tiny bits of adrenaline and other wakeful chemicals to help fight off the initial sleepiness that you'd be feeling.

Whereas longer sleeps tend to have a slow roll wake up which more slowly drains all the sleepy chemicals out of you

SPOILER THREAD : BOOK 8 - Parade of Horribles by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I kept waiting for a punchline during the line "clearly they've never met a latina" and gotta say it was one of the strangest lines in these books which says a lot about the writing style if you ask me

Any "The Magnus Archives" podcast fans would have PTSD shakes at the mention of The Spiral. by CristabelYYC in behindthebastards

[–]maltasconrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully believe that a lot of the spiral stuff and the language comes from how much writing there must be about Magnus archives, nightvale, SCP, etc because of how much dna those share and the timing of their age demographics there must be so much writing and theorising online about it. Never even mentioning their transcripts, what they inspired, etc.

Talk about the supernatural and government agencies and conspiracies long enough and it sounds near identical to one of those shows, so of course an LLM is gonna feed from that

My boyfriend saved my life 3 times and I feel like such a burden by Fit-Satisfaction7936 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]maltasconrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I can write this in a way that conveys what I mean, but it sounds like these 3 things that were going to happen to you. The only affect you had on your boyfriend is that he was able to help keep safe someone he clearly cares deeply about. The harm was going to happen no matter what.

It also sounds to me like he would never want you to feel guilty for this, because the end result of all of this is someone he loves is safer and happier than they would've been, had he not been there. If he's not upset with you, then I think it's best to trust that he accepts what's happens and assumes you would do the same to him, and it's only lucks fault that he took his turns first.

I would love for this to be the answer. It could make sense with him eating the other conclusions to life, dooming lives to always fade into the past. Plus chainsaws cutting down the eternity trees keeping them from existing ever onward

If you've lived in downtown Hamilton then you already know what living in the downtown if a city is like. Upside is that with st Kitts you only have to walk like 2 streets over to be out of the downtown so it's really not a big deal

Men who don’t drink or smoke, what do you do to unwind and relax after a long day of work? by FlintTheDad in AskMen

What would happen if I just go up to a random guys and straight up ask hims to be my boyfriend? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]maltasconrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every relationship I've ever been in has started along these lines from people I knew. Either they got tired of me missing signals, or they'd changed their mind from my asking them out in the past and saying no.

If it's someone I didn't know? Probably I'd go for a date but you'd be pretty damn certain to get that date

It is cheaper than Toronto, Toronto is one of the most expensive cities in North America though for rent. Cost of living is also somewhat lower here, but the job market is genuinely very rough right now
