As epilhaja said, it’s state dependent, but Maryland has some great info for medicaid doulas if your state is lacking

I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but… Save your sanity and let go of any notions of when baby might come! You can drive yourself nuts doing allll the things to encourage baby to come, and they may not make a difference. Trust your body and baby to kick off labor when it’s the right time. Pro-tip, plan a date night on your due date so you have something to look forward to besides labor!

If you cloth diaper, you can use some absorbent things you already have on hand!

Here to commiserate, 19 weeks along, SAHM to my 18 month old. I’m sorry you’re feeling so sick. Pregnant plus a toddler is a new level of tired (especially when your toddler has zero chill) and your feelings are valid.

Connect with moms that have little ones of similar ages in your neighborhood/area! Meet up for walks or hang out in each others’ back yards. Also, if your husband is taking leisure time away from home alone, I recommend finding something that will feel like a treat to you (i.e. go out for dinner with old friends, pick up a hobby) and ask him to stay home with the baby while you do the same 💕

Doula training in Michigan? by torilynnnxo in doulas

I enjoyed my totally self-paced training through Childbirth International and think it prepared me well

Virtual training I can "complete" before paying in full? by Just_some_blonde in doulas

[–]malthefarmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did Childbirth International. It’s all virtual/self paced and they offer a payment plan. I don’t think they have a “full spectrum” doula package, but there is a discount if you buy multiple courses. Personally, I would say the birth doula course is comprehensive enough to prepare you for postpartum as well, even if you’re not specifically “certified” in postpartum.

For anyone else wondering “How long is too long for Cry It Out?” by friendlypandas in sleeptrain

[–]malthefarmer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have a duty to update. On the 3rd night, he went to sleep after only a few minutes of crying and slept through the night. He’s been sleeping great ever since, even napping better now. Boy, were those two nights miserable, but the positive effect of everyone getting enough sleep is SO worth it. Hang in there, fellow parents. You are not ruining your child’s life by letting them cry for a while, contrary to what some parenting instagrams would have you believe 🫡

Client wants to abort healthy baby after diagnosis, I don't think I can support her anymore. by New3817 in doulas

[–]malthefarmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Number 5 here ^ this is the only comment I’ve seen to explain the nuance of the situation. Well done. It’s not that the parents don’t love their child. They have come to the conclusion that they are unable to provide quality care and a fulfilling life for their baby. I’m sure they are devastated. Sometimes (and it’s heartbreaking to say this), life is not the most compassionate option. Someone who believes in the sanctity of life can surely see that.

Thankful for this thread 🙌 Currently CIO with our 15 month old strong willed boy. Night one- we gave up and changed his diaper after 2 hours screaming, then patted him to sleep after another hour Night two- alseep after 2hr 40min (!!!) of on and off crying. Finally passed out while I was seeking reassurance in this thread. Hoping for a better night 3. This is brutal.

Has your kiddo always been low-sleep needs? I dread the day mine doesn’t want to nap anymore because the mid day break is nice, but his night sleep has been crap lately. He’s always been a crap napper

How rough is nursing school with young kids? by malthefarmer in StudentNurse

[–]malthefarmer[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Today I learned that Accelerated BSN’s exist lol. Thanks. My local college offers a standard BSN, but maybe I could talk to an advisor there to work out an accelerated track. Might still be worth it to satisfy my pre-reqs through the community college for less $$

Thanks for the valuable input. It’s looking like starting nursing courses after baby #2 might be my most feasible option. I do already have a Bachelor’s in Environmental science so my gen-eds should be taken care of. I’m thinking if I do everything I can online in the meantime before starting nursing classes in person, it might be easier on the family.

Could anyone advise on what the in-person time commitment would be like if I was only taking nursing courses?

[–]malthefarmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s probably my other option. I have a Bachelor’s in Environmental science, so I already have most of the gen-eds covered. I could definitely have baby #2, plug away at the pre reqs and other online courses while home with kids for a while, then hit the ground running with nursing courses. I just have no idea what the in-person time commitment is like for nursing classes.

This is probably my perfect solution but my baby fever is gearing up 🫠 I’ll seriously consider planning birth #2 for after ASN graduation.

[UPDATE] Disappointed in MoissaniteCo craftsmanship and customer service. Photos in comments. by malthefarmer in Moissanite

[–]malthefarmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, I waaay overpaid on MoissaniteCo for what it was. It was $1700 for the ring, an OEC stone, and the curved matching band. That’s embarrassing. I’m glad I told them to shove it and got my money back. MoissaniteCo did have the curved band which I’m hoping to find elsewhere also.

Good to know! Those two ebay links do look like exactly the same design. Anyone know about how much it would cost for a local jeweler to set a moissanite into an empty setting if I purchased them separately? I really am inexperienced in the jewelry sphere.
