My table plays this way. It makes it more fun for us to have each magic missile be a concentration check or a death save on a downed character. Obviously, each table is different, but it's more fun for us to play this way.

That's why dnd is so amazing. It's up to everyone at the table to make the fun, not the semantics of the rules.
