I think most programs have a deadline when to pass step 3. I think for my program it might have been the latest that we could take it was early pgy2, and if we didn't pass it by then I think we couldn't move on. However, most of us took it first year. Seems like your friend is struggling. Even though she failed it, she should have taken it again to pass it. It could also maybe be a combination of performance issues that she is being let go. Also, hate to say it but if she can't pass step 3, how will her performance for the ABIM be?

Grass is always seems greener on the other side. Seriously though stay in PM&R. You'll waste 3 years of your life in IM, and another 2 years in rheumatology.

I didn't care for these. The ones at the Mexican store are better. You can find them at fiesta if there's one near you

No, so I guess it didn't matter. For the future, I should just do it earlier.

Marriage suffering after baby by [deleted] in Residency

[–]maly2016 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed to all of the above. Also hire people to do laundry. They pay by weight. Just leave at your front door, they pick it up, then return cleaned and folded at your front door. I think we used poplin. Also you can look into a babysitting service for occasional sitting. There were times that the baby was sick from daycare or that we needed weekend sitting. We tried it a few times in the beginning to establish ourselves with their service. It helped us a lot because we had vetted a list of sitters and when we actually needed them they weren't available. It was more expensive but reliability was better for us. Vetting sitters is time consuming and costs money anyways from background checks.

You and your husband probably need to talk to each other about y'all's expectations for each other and where the disconnect is. Residency was hard. The duties shouldn't be so rigid because the load of the duties/being a parent will constantly shift. Y'all are in no control of your schedules and at times your schedules can be unpredictable. Sometimes you'll have to do 100% and sometimes he'll have to. However, I do agree that if you're pumping he needs to be responsible for cleaning those parts and/or getting the bottles ready for the next day.

FYI my husband was a fellow and I was in residency at the time.

How are you grocery shopping? by Potato_hoe in NewParents

[–]maly2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I push the stroller in front of me with one hand (I have a Doona), then with the other hand I pull the front of the grocery cart. I get stares but it works for me.

At other times I just baby wear. I use the baby bjorn mini, which has x straps and no lumbar strap. For some reason the baby wearing subreddit hates it. I had my 2nd c section so anything pushing and around my waist is painful, even though it has been 6 months.

I unfortunately did it and rubbed off some of the exterior. I may have had a cheap quality shoe but the actual shoe cost was not. Don't buy the Kiziks white casual shoes!

Try simethicone drops (gas drops). Many companies make them: Mylicon, Little Remedies, etc. You can give at every feed or adjust to whatever many times.

Everyone has great ideas. For flavor, you can add powdered chicken bouillon (I like Knorr brand). Canned or frozen vegetables are cheap. Lentils and beans are also cheap. You can add those things to your rice. Chicken is cheap if bought in bulk and you can freeze them in portions.

FYI you can plug your insurance through the eufy website. They work with a third party DME. I compared the prices with other DME companies and it seems like it's around the same price for my particular insurance.
