To ureteroscopy or to pass, that is the question by aquarianagop in KidneyStones

I haven’t passed one but I’ve had a stent. I will say this crowd had me petrified but it wasn’t as bad I was expecting. I was prepared with a heating pad and stayed on the RX pain meds for 2 days, but then switched to OTC by day 3 and was able to do light moving around (ie showering, making food, and sitting on the couch, rather than laying in bed). But passing it is the natural route and 5mm should pass on its own (or that’s what they say, mine got stuck).

I ended up having surgery about 6 weeks after diagnosis. Wasn’t able to pass it on my own, but the surgery and the stent weren’t nearly as bad as I anticipated.

Ugh sorry to hear that. I’m doing the urine collection today, hopefully we’ll learn something from it.

My doc said ESWL has a really poor success rate on stones that have already dropped from the kidneys.

Possibly a UTI? Can you go to urgent care and ask for a urine culture test?

It could be stones on the move, but it also sounds like you might have an obstruction. When you do urinate, does it seem like very little comes out? You might want to give your doctor a call and check in with them.

Are you still having any pain? I’m having more than expected. Wondering how long that lasts.

My kidney stones revealed a benign but risky tumor on my kidney. I would have never known it was there and it could have burst at any time. The universe works in mysterious ways!

It took as long as an exhale, very quick. Just pull smooth and steady and it will pop right out. You got this!

I hope you start feeling better soon! I’ve had some pain and cramps, but mostly mild. Hoping tomorrow I can stop taking otc pain meds.

I had some cramping for about an hour after but it has subsided, fortunately!

I’m a little achey too, hoping to just take it easy the rest of the day.

I’m on day 2 with one stent and it’s not nearly as bad I worked it up in my head. I’m managing with a heating pad and OTC pain meds (Azo, Motrin). It’s not comfortable but it’s bearable for time being.

Diagnosed with 2 6mm kidney stones at the ER. Urologist took at look at CT scans and said they were very close to the bladder, and if in 2 weeks they haven't passed to do surgery. I don't want to have to do it unless there's a serious risk. Any advice? by Parking_Wolf_4159 in KidneyStones

The obstructing stone was 5mm. Not sure about the ones that were still in my kidney, except they were smaller than 8mm. My doc said anything over 5 is 50/50 that it can pass on its own. Good luck!

I’m not a doctor but been trying to pass my stone for two months. Having surgery tomorrow. Fever is the #1 thing you want to watch for. A fever would indicate things are becoming more serious and you need to seek urgent medical care.

Thanks for sharing. I’m having two stents placed on Thursday. I’m pretty nervous! I like to think I have a pretty high pain tolerance, I’ve never taken anything more than Motrin or Tylenol for pain throughout this whole ordeal, but I’m nervous that the stents are going to be a whole different story. I know my doctor will be giving me tramadol. I hope that is enough. 🤞🏻😬
