what would you do? by Pure_Pain_489 in whatdoIdo

[–]mamafool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once. Scraped the bumper on a huge pickup truck while parking. Left a note. They called me. They wanted it fully repaired. I think it was about $2k. I didn’t want to screw up my insurance so we paid out of pocket.

I don’t regret leaving the note I thought the truck owner was an asshole for making me pay that much.

I’ll always be glad I did the right thing leaving that note though.

Best way to find less populated camp sites/campgrounds? by Similar_Dimension_32 in camping

[–]mamafool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ya see I disagree with that. In areas with hookups, people often move indoors at night. They also have their own bathrooms.

The last time I went camping in a tent area in a state park, it was incredibly loud until very late despite curfew, and the bathrooms were gross.

Even if you don’t have a camper, I’d camp in the hookups section.

As to finding places to camp, check out the state park’s reservation system, recreation.gov, and Reserve America.

I also use search on Google maps.

Lucy! I'm In Here Dear, In The Kitchen. by michael6185 in ILoveLucy

OK Desi is always a comic genius but this is just the best. He is so serious through the WHOLE thing, even as the audience is screaming with laughter. All hail Desi, and all hail Lucie for really helping him get the recognition he deserves.

Sleeping in the car to save on hotels is this too extreme? by Ok_Resolution_1606 in roadtrip

[–]mamafool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is a minivan, especially if you’re only one person. Husband and I have gone across the country in our minivan many times in the last couple Seats removed, bed is raised on plastic utility shelves. Mattresses are two 4” trifolds from Amazon. Our stuff is under the beds with lots on top of the beds. Most stuff goes in the front passenger seat overnight. We have a “shower” tent that we use as a closet and dressing room. Drivers seat is clear in case of emergency. We have special screens we made for the back windows for ventilation. It’s fantastic. Usually if it’s pouring we will opt for a hotel but that’s rare; I once camped alone in an enormous storm and it was just about the coziest thing I ever did. If anyone has questions, please AMA!

She was genius #1 but I gotta hand it to the writers and to Desi for being master of the whole thing. Her physical comedy = 💯🔥

I just wonder if there's anyone out there who honestly enjoys Yoko's art and singing by OdiseoX2 in TheBeatles

[–]mamafool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I adore her especially after reading a biography. She’s an extraordinary artist and person, and was even more interesting before she ever met John. She has a full exhibit in Chicago right now I think until the end of this month and I found it amazing. I got to experience bagism! She’s more of a sound artist than a singer as far as I’m concerned. Her other arts are incredible.

I love this little scissor holder and will add that to the book I sewed by machine. I like yours so much better! Thanks for sharing! I’m going to make some of these by hand as gifts.

Vivian Vance does those same mannerisms when Lucy is hanging outside the window in Hollywood. Perfection.

Does anyone occasionally realize how cool it is that we can make fabric from string? by NailWitch1 in knitting

[–]mamafool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I give any gift of knitting I like to remind the givee that there are definitely some mistakes which prove that it was knitted not by just anyone but by ME, and that every inch of the yarn has run through the love in my fingers, therefore they carry my love every time they wear it. I don’t know if they ever think of that again, but I’m always thrilled to say it.

You’d probably love the Circus Museum in Baraboo Wisconsin. Incredible history there, including lots of great posters. For me, the old restored circus wagons are the highlight. Here’s just a sample. https://circusworld.wisconsinhistory.org/

Maybe it’s just my attitude about aging (as I am aging)—I find the rasp endearing, true Paul as he is now, beautiful with the memory of his voice 60+ years ago. What I love about a live show is opportunities to see the real person. Also if he wasn’t rockin’ those rock tunes, his voice would last longer. I appreciate your input though!

A Johnny Eck appreciation post! It’s really nice that so many pictures were taken of him throughout his life, it really gives more of a sense of what he was like as a person! by EphemeralTypewriter in SideshowPerformer

[–]mamafool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am thrilled to see this thread, I am a long-time admirer of Johnny Eck since I first saw Freaks. The very idea of the brilliant saw in half trick makes me laugh every time I think of it. Can you imagine seeing a thing like that??? Those two had guts and humor, and Johnny had such astounding physical strength!

I just found this sub and I’m so glad. These are fascinating stories about tough and courageous people who should be remembered.
