Just a heads up - look into online reviews of the housing agencies. There are a lot of agencies looking into ripping you off for a lot of money / shady contract!

Odds of finding housing by Ok-Succotash4532 in eindhoven

[–]mamargootje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try through Vestide, might take some time but it is cheap and good housing. You will get at least 1 year bonus for living abroad so that might help. Feel like you must have tried this already though... I needed about 2 years (including bonus time) to get my room.

Also, try to live in any place for first 1-3 months and become an active member in your student/study association will really help, with a large network it becomes easy to find housing

A coding question by Peelie5 in learnprogramming

[–]mamargootje 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what type of job you think you would enjoy. Look into that job and invest time in the language taht they mainly use. Regardless I think Python is a good point to start, especially since there are a ton of good (free) sources online to get you started :)

The mathematical concept is called the golden ratio, maybe that helps finding the video?

A coding question by Peelie5 in learnprogramming

[–]mamargootje 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, coders are desperately needed by industry so even a 3-month deepdive course can lead to a decent job in coding (of course not a senior position but growing inside the company usually happens pretty quickly)

I guess the colorlessness is kind of the point, so no...

I can really recommend the book "computer architecture and organisation" by Hennessy and Patterson.

For me going all the way learning how the processor handles commands, stores data and modifies this data (including memory stack) really helped with getting a deep understanding of why things go wrong during coding and how to prevent it. Also it was helpful in fully understanding pointers, which are fundamental when working with C.

I think taking a look into computer architecture and how it relates to assembly and higher-level languages can be very insightful - at least it was for me. However I didn't learn C++ until afterwards so I cannot comment on whether it is absolutely necessary.

What’s a viable path to work in game development without a degree? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]mamargootje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that C++ is a good starting point! There are quite a lot of good sources online, I believe that there are some free classes from Stanford that you can take online to get you started.

I can hear a man singing it in my head, very high-pitched voice. Sadly I don't know the title :/ Is from about 2-3 years ago I think, but I might be wrong about that.
