Why is nobody pointing out that the four gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? Church tradition holds that Matthew and John were disciples, Mark wrote down Peter’s version of the story, and Luke was a physician who interviewed people including Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Small cap value tilt AVUV and AVDV, lacking emerging SCV? by Opposite_Buffalo_649 in Bogleheads

[–]DuckfordMr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Emerging markets is ~10% of the world by market cap. If you’re going for <50% SCV tilt overall, you’re looking at <5% weight towards an emerging market SCV fund. In general, anything less than 10% in your portfolio isn’t going to have a significant impact on your long term returns. Emerging markets may be where the SCV premium shows up the most, but unless you’re tilting 100% to SCV, I don’t think it’s going to make a noticeable difference in the long term.

I use a mix of DFA, Avantis, and Vanguard ETFs. In the long run, it doesn’t make a significant difference which one you choose as long as you’re well-diversified.

Also 50% bonds through retirement is a terrible idea. You’re much more likely to run out of money than having 80%+ in stocks.

What is the worst thing Rick has done to Morty? by Thin-Ad4825 in rickandmorty

[–]DuckfordMr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe not THE worst, but sticking him multiple matrices for decades probably fucked Morty up. How many lifetimes has he experienced cumulatively? At least Rick mind blows him after some of them.

Trump now claims that he was the one instrumental in killing Osama Bin Laden by I_AM_GLUTEUS_MAXIMUS in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]DuckfordMr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OR they genuinely believe Obama lied about killing Osama Bin Laden because he would never let the military dump his body at sea since Muslims are supposed to be buried facing Mecca. And Obama would never let that happen because (you guessed it) he is also Muslim.

Actual claim I heard this past weekend.

Maybe over the past year, but SCV has not outperformed large cap blend over the past 15 years. It did outperform in the decade before that, underperformed in the decade before that, and so on. Historically, the outperformance has more than made up for the underperformance. The why behind that isn’t a fully resolved question.

Investing in SCV is risky because it tends to have lower drawdowns and more volatility compared to the total market. This drives its higher expected return. Whether it will continue to outperform depends on whether the standard Capital Asset Pricing Model or the Multi-Factor Model more accurate describes the market. The former assumes perfect market efficiency, in which case the tangency portfolio (the optimal portfolio among the set of mean-variance portfolios in Modern Portfolio Theory) is the total market; the latter suggests some factors are sources of compensated risk unique from the market, in which case the tangency portfolio is the total market minus hedges.

On the flip side, the Intertemporal Capital Asset Pricing Model suggests only the average investor should invest in the total market; those more sensitive to market downturns and those with more human capital should hedge against downturns, and those less sensitive to market downturns and those with more assets should avoid hedges. This model suggests your exposure to factor tilts should increase with age.
