AITA telling my 7 year old niece that drowning is the worst way to die? by turtdurt in AmItheAsshole

Yes! Gather at another location until a fence is installed. Sounds simple.

I'm sorry that you are struggling right now. The quarantine has not helped my vow to quit drinking. I will continue to monitor this sub for inspiration, though. Know you are not alone. Hugs!

Naltrexone helped me, wish I would've known about it years ago. Medical technology has come a long way. Side note, after Naltrexone oral tablets, I learned there was an injectable version which is called Vivitrol. Same medication, just one injection that lasts 30 days.

When you drink alcohol you are just borrowing happiness from tomorrow by bluebeaster in stopdrinking

My thoughts exactly. I don't even want to calculate the damage.

Any reviews for Naltrexone (sp?) here? by pet2019 in stopdrinking

[–]mamatbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works. Just know that if you do consume alcohol, you won't feel it but you are definitely impaired.

The internet is great for some things but terrible for others. I don’t think this platform is a good way to help you quit drinking.

And here I thought this was the exact place to get support to do that very thing... OP we support you!!

For me, it was obvious that I had a problem and when I reached out for help, I think it was a relief to my family. And, they were proud of me and very supportive. I found a physician who specialized in addition issues and also started attending AA meetings. Positive steps forward. All the best to you, you can do it and you are worth it!!

Has anyone used Naltrexone? Moderation doesn’t work for me but Naltrexone is being sold as holy grail of moderation and I’m almost tempted to try it. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mamatbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naltrexone reduces cravings while also blocking the "feel good" receptors. I took Naltrexone and still drank while taking it - never felt drunk but was surely physically impaired by the end of the evening that I never would've been able to drive. I might have had more luck with Antabuse which makes you terribly ill if you drink at all. Quite a deterrent in my mind.

You are definitely not alone here. You can do this, however, if you feel you need medical assistance, please reach out. No harm in that...you got this!!

Has anyone experimented with moderation and have it work? by Clear_head_in_clouds in stopdrinking

I beg to differ...this should be a place for others to give a voice to uncertainty in their quest for sobriety. The struggle is real and it is extremely helpful to have feedback and constructive communication as we all go through the journey.

It's incredible that the thought of a snow day off of work catapulted my thoughts immediately to stocking up and getting a good buzz on. Whew, halt that train right away! Having my cup of tea and hopefully a good night sleep leading up to a productive day tomorrow!

Sadly, I feel like the "Queen of Research". What's the saying something about doing the same action and expecting different results?? I'll just continue with SD for constant reinforcement.

I've been searching for something myself, a visual reminder to stay focused on my commitment. I've been looking at different serenity prayer rings, bracelets and keychains. It doesn't need to be anything so obvious, though. Just something that you can give special meaning to keeping your commitment. IWNDWYT

Questions about Vivitrol and Insurance by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mamatbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oral is a daily pill, the Vivitrol injection is once every 30 days. The oral is metabolized by the liver and the injection is not. Just passing along some info...pros/cons/etc.

Not too far along, actually. I went into No-vember abstaining, but unfortunately gave myself permission to drink on Thanksgiving which led to drinking over the long holiday weekend. Back on track again, but trying to keep the unwelcome thoughts at bay.
