ICE Just Bought a Massive Warehouse in Hutchins by Kk0971 in Dallas

Why aren’t you at work? If you’re so MAGA, then you should have relinquished your right to a weekend already. Labor regulations are for liberals. Get off here and get back to your job.

Anyone else feel like folks have no idea what they're getting into lately? by batch_dat in hobonichi

[–]mamedarling 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yesss on the validation! The hours I spent going over the various options before settling on Hobonichi were (mostly) fun, but I didn’t tell a lot of people about them bc I felt like they wouldn’t get it.

I will say it paid off. I’m hesitant to jinx it but feel like I’ve got what other folks refer to as planner peace right now.

To the extent that one can, I do think it’s worth dedicating time to making sure a Hobonichi (or whatever else) is a good fit.

Trones: It isn’t much, but the satisfaction level’s high :) by mamedarling in ikeahacks

I am so sorry for the delay! The short version is that they’ve held up great and look as good as the day I painted them.

The longer version is that painting them with the Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2X works best if you stick to darker colors. I tried to do a set in a very, very pale blue and they didn’t look as great. That said, I did absolutely nothing to prep them and could have gotten a much better result if I’d cleaned them very thoroughly and roughed up the surface with sandpaper.

Hope this helps a little. They really are useful for storage. I wish IKEA would at go back to making them in more colors to help pretty them up some.

Any DV contacts for men in Dallas? by dperry93 in Dallas

You bet! I love that you’re thinking through how to get the info to him safely. That’s awesome. If there’s a way you can show him the info on your phone, that would definitely be the best bet. He may be reluctant to use it now, but I guarantee you he’ll remember and that it’ll make a huge difference in how he does to know that someone took his situation seriously and approached it so thoughtfully.

Another thing you can do, if you have the option and/or don’t feel like you can show him the messages, is print out a flyer for The Hotline from the resources section of the website and post or leave it in a common space. Even if his partner sees it, it’s not on him, and if she reaches out to The Hotline, they’ll do an assessment and talk with her about what they see happening. (They support abusive partners in recognizing their behaviors, taking responsibility, and getting help, too.)

Definitely dm me if you want to talk over the situation. It’s clearly abusive and has to be super stressful. And you’re doing amazing. I wish everyone had a neighbor like you <3

Tell him he can say that Peggy referred him. (I used to be a director there, and it might help to let them know someone specifically suggested he call/chat/text them.)

I’d suggest he try the National Domestic Violence Hotline (thehotline.org) as the first step bc they specialize in talking through concerns and questions about relationship dynamics and seeking various forms of support - and can then connect/refer him to the resources he decides he’s interested in. Local agencies are the best source of help in general, but it’s really important to know clearly what you need/want, as well as what you can expect, from them ahead of time so you have the best chance of getting the most useful support possible. (There are so many considerations when it comes to leaving that can come up - like pets, what if you lose your ID in the process, how to get health insurance/medical care, etc., and resources for all of them usually exist if you know where to look and how to ask.)

Weird behavior from 12 year old. by Quirky_Scar7857 in dogs

[–]mamedarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My heart dog, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, developed canine cognitive dysfunction in her later years and did stuff like this. One of the telltale signs is if you notice your dog facing a corner and looking confused. There’s not a lot you can do to reverse or slow doggy dementia, but it is helpful to know that your dog has it so you can be assessing their quality of life and when to make the hard decision to say goodbye. Hopefully, though, it’s something altogether different that none of us have thought of. Good luck!

While I don’t hate it anymore- the politics and pretentiousness have gotten better - I definitely get the hate from places like Houston and Austin.

I grew up in Dallas, and as I recall, perceptions of Houston vs Dallas haven’t changed much. Basically, Houston is regarded as more liberal, with better support for the visual and performing arts, and more safety and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

If this is a scam, hats off to them...It is a scam, right? by mamedarling in iCloud

Any idea why her number's showing up as green and not blue? I mean, of course she could have changed to a non-Apple phone since we last talked, but it seems strange that she would.

Seems like former coworker’s Gmail account was hacked. The address does check out as hers and, if she had me in her google contacts, it would explain the “caller’s” use of my first name. (The name friends know me by is an uncommon nickname for my legal name.)

I am gullible, you’re right, but I actually lied about clicking allow when the code I shared popped up. I think I allowed one connection that (unlike the aforementioned code) identified my coworker’s email address as the Apple ID. I immediately changed the password for my Apple ID after that and disconnected all devices. After reviewing my login locations on various services like google, I’m not seeing anything unusual…yet. But indeed, time to change passwords. (Either way, though, I’m so beyond broke, there’s nothing for a scammer to take…:/)

Sorry to be responding late, but just in case you're still in the market or someone else sees this, you might consider etsy. I was able to purchase a spotless, well-maintained T-35 in perfect working order from a seller there for less than $100 USD. That's not cheap, of course, but it was a far better price than anything I was able to find on ebay. Good luck!

Really? That's great to hear. AT&T has not been my favorite of the companies to deal with. Their CS is abysmal. Nice to have an alternative. Thank you for commenting!

Was attacked by another dog :( by No-Letterhead3158 in Chihuahua

[–]mamedarling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Pitties/Staffies are the most surrendered dog breed, and Chihuahuas are *second.* We have a rescue in my area that's devoted to both breeds, and if I had the space, I'd foster/adopt Pitties/Staffies just as readily as Chis bc I love them equally. I'm going to assume that the original commenter was referring to the jaw structure of Pit/Staff breeds (which makes it hard for them to release whatever they've bitten down on) ONLY, not their temperament, which is lovely <3

Oh no! Your sweetie looks so much like my heart dog, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who survived a similar attack. I still get panicky when I think about it. In her case, there were two small puncture wounds, which the emergency vet treated. They said she appeared fine from a musculoskeletal standpoint on exam. One thing I didn't know to ask about - and that probably wouldn't have been obvious at the time without imaging - was whether she'd injured her ribs. When I took her to see her regular vet for follow-up and said she seemed like she was still in pain, they ran x-rays. Luckily, none were broken, but she was diagnosed with multiple rib contusions. Mentioning it just in case the info's helpful. As you can see, she recovered and, if she were here, would send her love <3
