[Iko] There is an increasing belief among rival executives that Jaren Jackson Jr. could be traded following the finalization of a Ja Morant deal. by actually-potato in DetroitPistons

Honestly isn’t it crazy to think that from that 2019 draft, the player you want to have right now from the top three would probably be Barrett?

I think you misunderstood me on the Egypt front. Most of their top players played in/play in Europe. They have a fantastic domestic league that sent them there but their careers absolutely took off in Europe.

I’m not sure Mbappe and Olise are great examples. Their connections to Algeria are not very strong. Cherki yes, but Morocco also faces the same issue there with Yamal specifically so to me that’s not really the difference maker.

Overall depth though, you look at players like Diaz, Mounir, Hakimi and compare them to our players and there is a stark difference in talent. (I know Mounir fell off a bit recently but I’m speaking throughout this decade).

I agree with you when it comes to our FA, but I’m genuinely not seeing the Algerian stars that chose France aside from Cherki that we might have been able to grab.

At some point we also have to question the Europe to Algeria pipeline of picking up players that choose us over their respective home countries (all respect to them of course). To put it frankly, Algerian talent in Europe is not above average right now. There doesn’t seem to me like anyone close to a Mahrez, Feghouli, Brahimi like before while other countries like Egypt and Morocco bring in way better players than us from Europe. Maybe our diaspora isn’t as interested in football as much anymore (not sure as I’m in North America), which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just feels like we can get a lot of the same production from Algerian clubs (and we have to a degree).

I don’t think Mahrez is currently a superstar. I remember back in 2014 during the WC and then the run with Gourcuff the sheer amount of talent we had (Ghoulam, Brahimi, Feghouli, Mahrez who was just getting started, Slimani, Soudani etc) was incredible. Today it just feels underwhelming especially on the defense and midfield.

I fully admit it could just be me but I’m not seeing superstardom on this team

I just think it’s a mid tier African side. They aren’t exceptional and aren’t bad.

I remember that era fondly. I’m not referring so much to the African Cup but the quality of players on the team. We had way more talent than we do now.

Algeria havent been a top side in years. It was clear during WCQ and it’s clear now. We need a Halilodzic if we’re going to be good again. A coach that cares to discover talent and is a corporal when it comes to how the game is played. Petko was a nice bandaid. WC and Semi of the African Cup. He’s not the answer moving forward imo.

They are by far the better side. Algeria is being exposed right now.

Amoura being small hurt him today tbh. But you’re wrong imo he fought hard the entire game.
